I would recommend Monticello Lee apartments for anyone that is looking to move to the Northern Virginia area. I toured many different apartment complexes in the area, and Karime, Angelika, and the other staff left a fantastic impression and were very helpful and communicative. I moved into a studio here and have enjoyed it. The gas range has been one of the highlights since I grew up with that. The prices are very fair for the area and they offer six month and 12 month lease options, with month to month after the lease. The staff was very willing to communicate about any leasing questions I had. I havent felt hesitant about popping into the leasing office with any questions and the phone and emails are always answered and quickly. Any maintenance issues, including pest control, were promptly responded to within 24 hours. Water and trash is a flat rate, but fairly priced. Laundry is a separate charge per load and not in until, but it is rare to not have an available machine. The facilities are also kept very clean and well maintained. Plus, for commuters and non-drivers, King Street, the waterfront, several restaurants, and a hardware store is within waking distance. The DASH bus is free and is not even a one minute walk from my apartment. I take either that bus or the Metrobus (also under a minute walk) to the Metro Rail to work daily and its been great. You get to know people on my bus and train commute and Ive gotten to know folks around Old Town. Im originally from a small town in the Midwest so, it was a nice transition. I would definitely recommend moving here if youre considering a move.

I needed to relocate to Northern Virginia on short notice this summer and being familiar with Old Town, made sure to visit Bridgeyard, Thornton, Gunston Hall, and Monticello Lee. Angelika and Karime impressed me with their customer service and were very honest about the property. I toured nearly a dozen properties that day and chose a first floor studio at Monticello Lee as it fit my needs and budget nicely.
Five months into residence and I am very pleased with that decision. The unit and property are secure, well-maintained, cleaning services are on-site daily, and I have had no major issues. Minor maintenance requests have been fulfilled within 24 hours. The online portal for account maintenance and communication is useful, and I've always been welcomed into the office should there be any issues or questions.
General (unassigned) parking is included, sometimes I miss getting a space but there is always street parking within two blocks. Two gas grills are provided in the courtyard that make my weekly meal prep a breeze.
Thankfully I have not experienced any issues with smoke, noisy neighbors, or otherwise. Everybody has been super friendly and respectful. I love being able to walk nearly everywhere (grocery stores, dry cleaning, bank, post office, hardware store, restaurants & bars including King St) and being only a few blocks off the Mount Vernon trail for running and cycling.
Overall I'm extremely happy with my decision and would recommend touring Monticello Lee if you are looking to live in the best neighborhood Northern Virginia has to offer.

The first apartment we viewed in Alexandria was Monticello Lee and we instantly knew it was the place for us. The office manager is amazing and the maintenance man is the best. We always felt accommodated and heard when we had a problem. Overall this is a wonderful place to live.
They understand military life and were helpful when it came to moving in quickly and also moving out due to a military move. The move in process was easy, quick, and headache free.
We had a 2 bed 1 bath apartment and overall it was great. The flat paint walls make it difficult to clean the walls but that's a small issue. The building is old, gets quite cold next to the windows in the winter but the in room AC/Heater units did the trick. The wood floors are real and we really liked them.
One issue we had, which is my only true complaint is that our package was stolen from the lobby. It was frustrating because we were told "have it delivered to your door" which delivery drivers rarely did (can't blame them, they have a lot of apartments to deliver to). With the price of rent you would think the apartment could afford to put in a camera. The lobby is locked, key entry too but that didn't deter thieves. We were not the only people who had packages stolen. This was disappointing to say the least.
Lastly, and on a good note the best part of this apartment is the location. For the price and area you can not beat it. The commute to JBAB in the morning was 11 minutes. An 11 minute commute into DC can not be beat. You can walk to King st whic is awesome. Not to mention the short walk to the Alexandria Waterfront. This neighborhood is safe which was important as a military spouse. I miss this neighborhood every day!
Overall this is a great place to live. No regrets
