This is the opposite of a chain hotel. There is no big-screen TV in the room. The buildings were obviously hand-built and extended from time to time. The rooms are roomy and clean, decorated in Vermont antique style. Very homey. I wasn't impressed with the weekday breakfast offerings: bacon and eggs, instant oatmeal, raisin bran. I elected to eat stuff I brought. Even on a Friday at 8 AM, the WiFi was glitchy, even just for audio streaming. My main complaint is about their unpaved driveway and parking areas. As Planning Commission Chair of my local borough, I am a big fan of permeable road surfaces. However, the gravel surfaces were uneven with big deep puddles filled with water and mud. I talked with one of the husband and wife owners, who explained to me that the only time the driveway is like this is in spring mud season which is almost always in April when they are closed. The warm early spring took the driveway by surprise.

The rooms are dated and old but clean and serviceable. Where it shines is the location, a free, pretty decent breakfast and if you have younger kids, the indoor pool, sauna and hot tub. They have coin laundry, a small game room and that's about it. Just a few miles from Stowe, so the location is great. The staff are super friendly.

Lovely spot to stay that is close to the slopes! The rooms are cozy and comfortable. It is easy to enter and exit the lodge with all your ski gear. There is also a sauna, hot tub, and pool that were such a relief after a long ski day. Breakfast is complimentary and there is a decent selection of options. We also appreciated that there was a large dining room with a fireplace, coffee/hot water and microwave 24 hrs a day. This meant that we could eat here anytime in the evening as well and it was a nice place to work when needed. Another small and underrated amenity is the water fountain next to the ice machine. The bus stop for green mountain transit is directly in front of the lodge, which made getting to the ski resort very easy. Overall we had an awesome experience and definitely recommend!

We had an exceptional stay! Fear not, as this hotel offers impeccable service, very clean rooms, and an outstanding pool paired with a delightful hot tub. I Highly recommend this for a thoroughly relaxing experience for an old school inn.

Business Response on Google Feb 18th, 2024
Hi Keith,Thanks for staying with us. We're glad to hear that you found our rooms clean and comfortable and enjoyed the homey atmosphere. We were surprised to read that you were having problems with the wifi. We have a very strong fiber internet connection and usually the wifi is very reliable. We will be going through the system tomorrow to investigate and see if we can identify any issues. We apologize for the mud in our driveway. Our driveways are gravel, but they are generally well maintained and graded, with the exception of a few weeks each year, which Vermonters lovingly refer to as "mud-season". During mud-season, the ground is still frozen several feet down so the spring rains are not able to drain into the ground and instead sit on the surface as mud. This is not unique to our property and affects every gravel road or driveway in Northern New England. Usually mud-season occurs during our off-season in April, when our lodge is closed anyway, but this year it arrived a few weeks early. We are sorry for the inconvenience. As soon as things dry out, we will be grading the driveway and adding a fresh layer of pea-stone.We hope you consider returning for a future visit, we'll do everything we can to exceed your expectations.Mike and ShannonInnkeepers
