Smooth process to get a birth certificate if you are immediate family. Make sure you read what you need to take with you so you don't get denied service. I used the online check in function and it saved me so much time by showing up right as my name was going to be called. They send you messages to let you know the wait time and you can request more time if you are running late. Great service by the staff. Lot of people inside though so seating may run out.

Very crowded with long wait times even with Qless wait in line app registration. If you dont want to spend hours waiting and are willing to pay extra for convenience, I highly recommend getting the birth certificate by mail or by a 3rd party online (vital check). The only good thing about going in person is getting the certificate same day. I do not recommend bringing your newborn (if you can help it) there as its crowded and germy. Also ONLY ONE parent not both parents need to be there to get the birth certificate. I suggest using the Qless app to register to get a place in line to cut your wait time. That being said, its far from perfect and the wait times provided by text messages are not accurate and always running behind. Also you cannot request an appointment days before or even the day of using the Qless app for birth certificate. All you can do is register to be in the queue and request if you need more time to be seen before you get there. Also I recommend filling out a paper application for the birth certificate right after getting in there. Its not online at all and no one told me to fill out that one sided one sheet app so the clerk made me stand back in line and put me further in the queue and wait 25 min or so even though filling out the application only takes 2 min at most. The place is very disorganized. Once the clerk calls you, its quick and short. Only drivers license needed and any form of payment. You get the certificate in a couple min after being called. Parking is free.

Quick and sweet. Always make an appointment and be a little early if they have time you can be seen sooner. Fill out everything you can beforehand. Applying for a passport was so easy!

You do not need a birth certificate if you are applying in person with the parent and an expired passport. Maybe update state department website. Or read it.
