Dr. HOPE ESSIEN, DNP-APRN PMHNP-BC

My current psychiatrist is closing her practice, so I'm looking for a new one. I found Dr. Essien online and made an appointment. I filled out all the pre-appointment paperwork, did the mental health survey, and had my current psychiatrist send over my medical records covering the last 15 years. When I got on the telehealth call, she rude and combative from the get go. She clearly had not looked at anything I submitted, had no idea who I was, and said "I don't know why I'm seeing you today." I remained patient and tried to explain that I'm bipolar and have been in treatment for 20 years, and tried to tell her about the medication regimen I've been mostly stable on for 15 years. She latched on to the medication issue and asked me what I was prescribed (something I had already provided in the paperwork I filled out). I told her and she latched from there onto one medication in particular and started saying things like "Why do you take this?", "Why do you take this dosage?", and "How often do you take it?" From there she said, "I would never prescribe you this medication." This was all within the first 10 minutes, after which I said, "This clearly isn't going to work out." and ended the call. There was no conversation, no attempt at understanding, not any kind of "let's get to know one another a little bit" moment. Nothing. Just continued interruptions when I tried to talk to her. Absolutely the worst experience I've had with a mental health "professional" ever. That wasted 10 minutes cost me $195.00. Don't make the same mistake I did.

The absolute worst experience seeing a psychiatrist. If she is even that. She was rude and does not listen. She cuts you off and tries to make you feel as though you dont know anything. I would NOT recommend this NP. Edit: my children were patients of this practice the appointment was actually this morning. & the fact that this doctor would try to reply to my review saying we werent patients proves how incompetent and unprofessional she is.

My daughter has seen this practitioner for the past year and I have nothing but excellent things to say about the attention and the care she provides. We have always had positive experiences during our appointments. She listens and gives recommendations that have been spot on. She is always timely and never rushes through our appointments. She allows me to discuss observations that she uses to make informed decisions which have positively affected my child's functioning at home and school. I couldn't be more pleased with the care and treatment she provides and would recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, trustworthy medical provider.

Do not book with a doctor that is not willing to listen to your concerns! And only cares to voice that she is not your previous doctor! If you like to be insulted and belittled I recommend her for sure
