image It has been my experience that Dr. Altenau was always very thorough and kind in his practice. He erased your fears during medical procedures. His office was very efficiently run. Im glad that he is continuing on a part time basis during his retirement. Im looking forward to my next appointment.

image My experience there was just from this week. I dealt with him in 2012, 2011, and 2010 for sinus issues however this time around he was a rude man. I am paying him for a service its not free and his tone was short rude and I will not be going back. I think his age has caught up to him. Very disappointed. I felt like I was visiting my dad that was scolding me. His patient "bedside" manner is awful and it seems like he loves to hear himself talk.

image he gets 1 star only because I had to. I had an appointment with this man on 7/26/2017 My dr sent over the results of a cat scan. When I arrived he yelled at me because I did not have x rays. I explained that my dr sent over the result. He then yelled at me for not having those with me and his staff had to give them to him. He said it was not his staffs job to have my files. (?) He treated me like sh** from the minute he walked in the door. I almost walked out of his office. He spit on my files on purpose. The most hateful man I think I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Very old fashion dr and very unprofessional I will never go back and advise any new patients to think twice. Very hateful man he should retire.

image I'll give the good AND the bad. He isn't as bad as Dr. Lawrence Weprin, but he's not great. He seems to care but he does tend to be a little short when talking to you. He told me there was no such thing as post-nasal drip, which I found odd. He DID accurately diagnose my Empty Nose Syndrome and nasal valve collapse that happened from Dr. Weprin's surgery. BUT---he wanted to do another turbinate reduction even though turbinate reduction is EXACTLY what causes Empty Nose Syndrome. He does explain a lot of things, I'll give him that. While I was there in the waiting room, the office lady was calling people and telling them she would report them to the collections agency. Which is fine but she was saying their names out loud where the whole waiting room could hear. The guy's not awful but I probably would not go back. If you look at his online photo, he looks to be in his 50's, so I was surprised when a very elderly man walked in. The guy is in his 70's so I really think he needs to retire at this point. Scary to think he does surgery.

image Let me start by saying I love the doctor. His staff, however, leaves a lot to be desired. After incurring a small balance, I received a very unpleasant phone call from one of his staff members. She was threatening and rude and quite obviously hates her job. She said she'd turn me into collections immediately if I didn't pay my balance. This was the first I was hearing about this balance and was more than willing to provide immediate payment, so the venom in her tone was unnecessary, not to mention unprofessional. My $50 balance was paid that day. One year later, my account went to collections and was reported to the credit bureaus as delinquent. When I called Dr. Altenau's office to rectify the situation, the same monotone, emotionless woman answered the phone. When she pulled up my account, she said it was in collections and I would need to pay on it immediately. After I recounted the phone call from 2016, she looked further into the account and said, "Oh, you're right, it was paid in 2016,". No apology, no nothing. When I informed her that I had been reported to collections many months AFTER I paid the balance and that my credit had subsequently suffered because of this mistake, she told me there was nothing she could do about it, other than let the collections agency know that I'd paid the debt. The collection agency would never have been involved in the first place, had she done her job properly and noted the account on the day she took my payment 18 months prior. The collection agency then reported me to the credit bureau, destroying my credit rating. My account was satisfied by this woman at Dr. Altenau's office long before she sent my account to collections. The only proper way to resolve this issue and make it right would be for her to contact the collection agency and admit her mistake, taking them completely out of the equation, and then contacting the credit bureau and doing the same thing. This lady's mistake, which she takes so lightly, has impacted my life in such a huge way I see no other alternative than to get an attorney involved. My credit was perfect before this. Beware.
