When renovating our pool earlier this year we purchased two cascading water bowls from Slick Rock. When they were installed by our pool contractor they looked beautiful. However, approximately 4 months later we noticed a hairline crack in one of the bowls that ran from one side of the bowl to the other and was allowing water to seep out. Our contractor reached out to Slick Rock and they agreed to replace it. Then, a few weeks ago we realized the inside of the other (original) bowl was peeling. Upon inspection, we could see another bubble under a painted area that was about to begin peeling as well and if you rubbed your finger tip any where near the peeling paint, more paint started to come off. When our contractor reached out to Slick Rock they were told that this is not something they cover and suggested that we could repaint paint the bowl ourselves. They even provided instructions, lol. Given the cost of these bowls, the fact that they have been in place for just about 6 months and that this is clearly a manufacturing issue/defect, we were shocked and disappointed by their response and decision not to stand behind their product. At a cost of over $4200 (what our vendor charged) for these bowls we expected quality and certainly better customer support. The peeling paint is clearly a manufacturers defect due to poor workmanship and Slick Rock should stand behind their product. On their site they even stress the steps they take to apply sealer to the bowls. Obviously the sealer didn't work or wasn't applied properly in this particular bowl. We bought a product "Made-in-America" and expected quality. Instead, this manufacturer expects us to repaint their 6 month old bowl for them. Never once did they even bother to ask if we were capable of making the repair ourselves. This just doesn't seem like a lasting solution and we can only imagine that this will be a never ending project give the bowls hold water 24/7 and will likely peel again since they weren't properly sealed during manufacture. On a closing note, I've purchased painted concrete bird baths for $50 that have lasted 10 years without chipping even though they were left outdoors year round and exposed to the harsh winters and hot summers when we lived in Chicago. Not saying don't buy, just saying be cautious and forewarned.
