Read your contract. Used to be charged on your tax $ saved, now it's also charged on prop value reduction. Which doesn't affect your tax calculation due to existing caps. That is, they switched business models and you're likely paying them for little to no value. Read that contract before you sign.

Eh, they are kinda a scam. While they do the work they claim to do, they also charge you twice the amount they save you on taxes. You are better off just paying the tax bill tbh. I wont use them again. Edit: Be honest, you charge 40% of the total home value assessment reduction, not 40% of the actual tax dollars you save. Taxes arent 40% of value, nowhere close. I paid you about 2x more money than you saved me in taxes, and it wasnt $50

Last year Texas Protax charged us nearly $1000 in spite of not reducing our tax rate at all. It turns out that at some point in our relationship, they snuck language into their contract so that even if their work produces no tax savings whatsoever, they can still charge you a "market value reduction fee" for getting the assessed market value of the property down, whether this results in any tax savings or not. Needless to say we will not be continuing our relationship in the future. Don't get scammed!
