They missed state deadlines, resulting in a big penalty (that luckily got waived by the state this time), they increased my rates because I had a few new accounts open, and then proceeded to do work that was not authorized without telling me. When I canceled (nicely via email, because I couldn't afford to continue with the raised rates) Mary hits me with a $1k bill for hours worked that I did NOT authorize. She claimed the increased rates (the reason for canceling) was to "chip away at a deficit" which she never mentioned UNTIL I canceled.
She is a snake, she will pack in hours and wait until you piss her off by canceling after she raises your rates. Steer clear if you're a small business starting out. She threatened me with her attorney, she's trying to get blood from a turnip, and she's dishonest. Shame on you, Mary. You are a scourge on the local community.

The entire staff at Darnell CPA, PLLC is wonderful to work with. They are professional, attentive to detail, and very communicative. Even though I have moved out of state, they will always be my "go to" CPA firm.
I highly recommend this firm for all your tax and planning needs.

I don't know how anyone would feel like they're in good hands with Darnell CPA. We have done business with this firm since 2021, never complained, instead had full faith that we were in "good hands," but after poor tax planning, I began to request basic financial reports that had gone overlooked, such as monthly P&L's, and that's where the issues began. Getting an email or call back from this team in a timely fashion is unheard of. This must be the busiest accounting firm in the entire city, since it is a 3-5 business day turnaround time to simply receive an email confirmation. Upon terminating our relationship (after realizing that we were paying over $1,200 a month plus bills for phone calls and misc fees for services that a simple software like Gusto can provide for a fraction of the price), we were told that "we simply didn't pay as much as other VIP customers to be prioritized."
As young restaurant owners, we entrusted this firm with multiple businesses and had plans to keep growing with them until the charade fell apart. It is saddening that there are firms like this that thrive on the notion that its clients are not well versed on the topic of accounting and keep their clients in the dark with their finances. Do yourself a favor and find another firm that has the time of day for you, this one is not worth the trouble.
