It's a shame that they seem to be moving away from being a hotel that celebrated the history and heritage of the building to a more yuppie-focused food and drink orientated environment. I liked it better as it was.

The property is nothing as advertised or on their website. The place is shabby and rundown like a flop house. It is under redevelopment yes, but nothing prepares you for the dilapidated condition of the whole property, hotel, trains, sheds. In its present condition it is deplorable.

We recently stayed at the Choo Choo with our two small children. They were excited about staying at a former depot and to see some rail cars. As others mention the hotel is not located inside the old building but is actually a short walk past 7 dilapidated rail cars. This gloomy realization is followed by entering the lobby to find it under construction. Parts of the hotel appear as though it was built in the 1970s and never updated. Our room was on the second floor but the rails that protected the balcony were wide enough either of our children could have fallen through. To add to our dismay, our room (although clean) was very aged. The bathroom was a grungy and lacking in basic necessities (no hand soap or bar soap). An additional disappointing aspect was the closure of the pool and garden area. Both of which are often the most necessary parts of our family get-aways (luckily there is a lovely river designed for children near the aquarium). The most shocking point was lack of a coffee bar altogether. There is a tiny little one cup pot in the room, but a small packet of sugar and powdered creamer is the only accompaniment.
Overall this hotel is not worth any rate they request. Particularly since it competes with other legitimate 2-3 star hotels which charge the same.
Walkability: This hotel is located 1.25 miles from the Tennessee Aquarium. This is not a problem for those included to walk or that do not mind being confront with the realities of urban life.
Food & drinks: This hotel is technically a part of the old depot and is located within a 3 minute walk to restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.

Very cool old train station. I didn't stay the night so I can't speak to how the hotel is. I went for a craft market around the back.
