image DO NOT RENT!! or RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK! I am writing this review as a frustrated tenant for all the issues I have so far experienced since moving into the Main Street Living Apartment Homes, Barringer Building on Main Street, Columbia, SC in October, 2023. First let me say, my first impression of the level of customer service was incredibly outstanding and I had given them a Five Star review on customer service levels. That I would not take away from the team that assisted me. However, after moving into the apartment, I have experienced nothing but ongoing problems. I live on the 12th floor and the roof has been leaking since the first rains of November of 2023. Service calls to maintenance have yielded nothing but false promises of roofing contractor being contacted and repairs scheduled. As of this review, the leak is still there after the rainfall we received last week. There are three elevators, however, two are always out of service, all constantly need maintenance. Notification are sent out to tenants stating they are "diligently working to repair as soon as possible" which means, they can take as long as they want to since parts are not readily available, but legally they are within "trying" to make repairs. I have been waiting for a call from Mrs. Rogers, their corporate property manager since March 22nd, 2024 and have yet to receive any follow up on the ongoing issues and my concerns. As of this review, I am seeking out legal counsel on what legal cause of action a frustrated tenant like myself can take to hold Ascent Residential LLC, the property management company, the corporate office accountable for the frustrations and not providing the necessary repairs needed in timely manner for the comfort of their tenants.

image SCAM ALERT: this is the slimiest, sleaziest apartment management I have ever dealt with. You'll notice that the reviews here on google are all 1 star or 5 stars, that's because they encourage you to give them a review on google as soon as you sign the lease, which many people do to be nice, I did it too, but it's before you actually live there and get scammed by them to know any better. I've talked to many other tenants and so many moved out when this new management came in because they couldn't handle it. Multiple tenants including myself where hit with unexplained massive ($800+) utility bills after moving out, supposedly for 6 months of utilities, even though this process was never communicated ahead of time and we had been paying normal utilities throughout that period anyway (you pay utilities directly to the apartment company and not the utility company, and there are no meters to verify your usage, you just have to trust the management to bill you fairly). Another crazy incident: they threatened to unlawfully evict me (within less than 30 days) because their website was not working and not accepting my payments while I was traveling, but immediately dropped that as soon as I threatened to report and sue them (because they knew what they were doing was illegal). I'm speaking as someone who always pays rent on time and never causes any issues. Also the building maintenance is horrible, cockroaches, the washing machines and driers never work and always have signs saying they are "waiting for a part" that never arrives. Just horrible all around, I could go on, but I don't want to make this too long. DO NOT RENT HERE

image Simply amazing. Brittney Jarvis made the move in process so easy and simple. As someone who hates stuff like this, Brittney made it really easy for me. If youre looking for a nice place to live in downtown; go to Brittney, she will take care of you.

image There are not enough bad things I can say about this place. Over the years the pipes have burst on Xmas. My fianc was physically injured from pieces of the roof falling during construction. This thanksgiving the water went out for days and we were forced to vacate to a hotel, and they did not reimburse us for the hotel costs. The washers and dryers break constantly and you have to floor hop to try and do laundry and ridiculous prices. The elevators are constantly down and are sketchy to be on in the first place. The rent on a studio, a glorified closet with a kitchen, has gone up by hundreds of dollars a year with absolutely no improvement to the building. Their contracts, which seem barely legal at best, make it impossible to move out unless youve saved up large sums of money, which is almost impossible with the cost of living here. You will literally be trapped here. Im sure theyll have something smart to say about my name not being on a lease, but Ive been here and paying to live here. And the living conditions are downright deplorable. The management is terrible, and has been straight up nasty to us on the phone. The other employees are a revolving door as it seems anytime they hire anyone decent theyre gone in a month. They blame the conditions on the age of the building but these problems NEVER happened when the previous company owned it, as they actually maintained the building. Only move here if youre willing to live in third world conditions sometimes at high first world prices. The. Absolute. Worst.

image Moving from Anchorage, Alaska to Columbia has been stressful as all get out. When I walked in to get a tour of my new home, Brittney Jarvis and the Staff at Main Street Living made me feel right at home. It is the only part of this move that has been easy and exciting. I want to thank them, they have gone head and shoulders above to make sure that I was taken care of even if it meant they had to work a little longer than expected. So thank you girls for your time and effort! you have put me in a great living space! I can't wait! you girls are amazing. From me to to ya'll i am very grateful! NOW LET'S GO!!!!!!
