Best Western Charleston Inn

Stayed here in July 2023 for our anniversary road trip. Returned to the hotel after a long day out and about on the town and just as we were about to settle in for the night we were surprised by roaches in our bed. More started coming in through the crack at the bottom of the main door. These were not palmetto bugs but German roaches - everywhere. Staff seemed to immediately know which room we had been in and commented saying it was probably the gap under the door. I'm not sure how an establishment can be so unconcerned renting a room knowing roaches get in. We ended up checking out in the middle of the night. Staff was unsympathetic, extremely rude, gaslit us saying you can't avoid palmetto bugs in SC, and laughed it off stating at least it wasn't baby diamond back snakes that they find on the property. No refund or apologies were offered. Truly horrifying experience. We spent the night going through all of our belongings to make sure we didn't have any stowaways. I hesitated to post this review for a long time partially because I did not want to relive this experience but please beware especially with the ground level rooms!

We chose this Best Western because it was pet friendly and close enough to Charleston to visit some of the attractions. It can be pretty difficult to find budget accommodations when traveling with pets, and thus, our expectations are usually very low for pet friendly hotels, even if the reviews are good. This Best Western was such a pleasant surprise. We stayed in a King Suite on the second level and, based on the photos, expected slightly larger than normal rooms subdivided with a couch on one side and a bed on the other. The King Suite felt more like a studio apartment without the full kitchen - huge rooms both on the living and sleeping side, huge bathroom, vaulted ceiling, and a pool view. Breakfast is always a plus with little kids in tow. This was a pretty standard setup - waffle maker, eggs, sausage, yogurt, cereal, and toast. My kids were especially entranced by the automatic pancake machine. My only complaint was that the pool was covered in algae and clearly not ready for swimming. I understand it probably wasn't in use over the winter, but it seems a waste to not have it up and running during spring break when the temps reached 85 degrees. All in all, a very pleasant experience - friendly staff, clean and comfotable rooms, full breakfast, well-landscaped grounds, and pet friendly. It's definitely our new go-to spot when we're in the area.

We were very good there... you drive 20 minutes. This is a beach and 15 is the center of Charleston.. Rooms: It was clean, also the sheets..a normal hotel room..nothing luxurious but comfortable, I just think the pillows could be better!
