I have practiced a variety of hard style martial arts when I was younger, including judo, hapkido, and tae kwan do. I decided to try something easier on the body and moved over to an internal style, tai chi. I was pleasantly surprised to find a school with a great depth of knowledge in the traditional aspects, martial applications, medical and spiritual benefits. The head instructor Dr. David Clippinger speaks Chinese, and has trained with many of the families who developed the different tai chi styles. His level of expertise is appreciable, and as a Phd of philosophy, he also is able to approach teaching from an academic level as well. You would be hard pressed to find another sifu in the Pittsburgh area with his credentials.

I have studied Tai Chi and Qigong with David for about 8 years. He is extremely knowledgeable, having studied with Masters and Grandmasters all over the world. He teaches in a manner that considers each student's starting point and helps them work toward their individual goals, whether their goals are to improve overall health, relieve stress, or dive deep into a martial art. David makes each of these things accessible, and I highly recommend studying with him.

I am very happy and grateful for finding Still Mountain and the very experienced, Dr. David Clippenger who has honed his expertise studying under a number of Qi Gong and T'ai Chi Chinese Masters as well as during his Ch'an monastic training. He is also a Ch'an Teacher of Buddhism. That is to say, he is the real deal and certainly the most qualified teacher I have found in the Pittsburgh region to teach any of these practices. This, of course, is a great boon for his students. David is also unpretentious and has a calm and playful presence, all signs of a great teacher! Under his guidance, I have regained the full use of my shoulders which have had rotator cuff injuries for 10 years. The gentle, subtle repeating motions of Qi Gong have brought me renewed energy and well being. Classes are offered in person and on-line with an extensive library of programs one can do between classes.

I have been taking T'ai Chi and Qigong instructions from David for nearly 2 years...both in-person classes and virtually, and am rewarded with my experiences each and every class or repetitious practice session. I'm learning that it's so much more than a physical exercise, it's the learning of a new mindful approach to everyday living. The camaraderie of the students is infectious and breeds our confidence as we try in our attempts to learn new movements with often feeble first attempts. And I will conclude by saying that often the most enlightening and sometimes most humorous moments are when David shares practical applications of the day's lesson or remembrances of his times of tutelage under the guidance of some of the great masters of T'ai Chi. I highly recommend anyone interested in exploring the art and craft of T'ai Chi to contact David at Still Mountain.
