Once a private estate, it was transformed in the 1840s into a Victorian rural cemetery and arboretum, now home to over 1,000 trees and the final resting place for many of the citys notable figures. The Woodlands is not just a cemetery; its a living record of Philadelphias rich cultural and botanical heritage, a place where the community gathers, and history is preserved amidst the tranquility of nature.

        A peaceful, safe, and relatively quiet place to walk, run, picnic, enjoy nature, and contemplate mortality in West Philly, close to University City. Free parking along the cemetery's road (but drive slowly and watch for pedestrians) and there is a water fountain by the POP orchard.
