    I had a loan with Mariner Finance and paid it off about four months ago. Today, I finally got my check in the mail for the overpayment. There has been no communication from them prior to this, and when I go online to get info, it's as if my account never existed. This company is definitely not very good at communication.

    This is my experience with Mariner in Lancaster PA. This was the 2nd time I took a loan out with them, and I'm pretty sure there will be no more. My wife and I wanted to consolidate our bills and get some extra cash to repair our vehicles and have a little extra breathing room. This was such a horrible decision a week before Christmas 2023. They messed up the check they cut for me, and after my bank cleared it, by the end of business Friday the check was retracted by Mariner because they made a clerical error. This all happened the Friday before Christmas, spiraling my account into a huge negative balance after we used half the money for what we intended it for. Mariner closed at 5 and had no weekend hours. Banks closed until Tuesday, same with Mariner because of Christmas. Tuesday they cut me a new check, however my bank held that check until today, January 3rd to verify the funds actually went thru. We sat almost 2 whole weeks with a negative account, with it absorbing my direct deposit due to the negative balance. This was such a horrible experience across the holidays. I'm so disappointed that someone's negligence caused so much disruption in our lives, and nothing could be done to correct it sooner. The manager at Mariner was apologetic, and tried to rectify it by calling PNC, but there was simply nothing he could do. I believe our agent rushed and printed the amounts onto the wrong checks. There was an issue while we were there with the checks/ printer. The agent was flustered saying the printer gave them issues. I told them not to rush, I had to take my wife to work and I would be back to collect the checks. I returned a little over an hour later and the checks still were not completed. No clear answer was given, the explanation I was given was the printer printed onto the wrong paper and they had to reissue the checks or something. 40 minutes after I returned ( 1:40 min total) I left with my check. It doesn't matter if it was my agent or their finance department, the fact remains we were placed into a horrible position and nothing could have been done to fix it. I have been assured they will take care of any overdraft and NSF fees that were acquired during the ordeal. Be cautious and prepared to ensure the check fully clears your banks from Mariner before you use any of the money they give you. My hope is that the parties responsible have been corrected and disciplined. But my feeling is it was a simple "oops, don't do that again" slap on the wrist.
