Was pretty interested in the properties but they raised the rent of ALL of them to disgustingly high prices. Every single one bedroom is 1200 at the least. With no utilities. Clearly a money hungry management company.

I have lived in two HBG realty properties. International House, and now Benmar. When I moved out of IH I got my entire security deposit back. The property manager was really friendly and the few times I had to contact them they responded right away and took care of me. The Benmar (124 pine st) is really nice. I havent been here very long but so far its been a good experience. They recently started keeping the front foyer door locked 24/7 and ups/fedex/amazon delivery drivers now need to call a number to open it to drop off packages. This is definitely a good thing based on some of the older reviews with people complaining about package theft which shouldnt be a problem anymore. I have had some really terrible experiences with other property management companies and I can definitely say that HBG is one of the good ones and I am really thankful for them. After fleeing PA Place and the horrible new management over there, this has been a really refreshing change.

Filled an application out, application process was completed 4-5 days late. Also, never heard of having to complete a screening just to tour an apartment. Unfortunately, it just might be because they are understaffed but there are other realtors that will take care of you more reasonably.

Moving from out of state to the area, called over 5 times in the last 5 days due to phone numbers not being properly placed on the different websites. I get that numbers change and things happen, but the lack of engagement on their end is a bit of a red flag considering I'd be giving them money. Seems like nice places but I'm concerned we'll be ignored if we move to the area

I lived at the Benmar on Pine street, owned by HBG realty. First off, the leasing office is impossible to get ahold of and they were extremely rude to me towards the end of my lease. I have actually never been treated so rudely publicly before so it was quite jarring. Obviously I feel wronged for how I was treated, but I am not going to make this review about that. This will be about the apartment experience as a whole, so let's get to it. Anyway, the apartments themselves are average. Keep in mind that the apartment is all you're getting as well. There are quite literally zero amenities. No gym/fitness center, no common areas (well there's one with just a couch but the room was locked the entire time I was there), no package room (your packages are left in an unlocked front foyer where any random person walking by the building can come in and take), and the leasing office is about 3-4 blocks away and never open. The big windows in the apartment units look nice, but are highly inefficient. If you live in one of these (nearly all the apartments) expect to spend anywhere between $100-250 a month on electricity in the winter months (about 7-8 months a year) as your heater tries to keep pace with the heat you lose through the windows. Floors are noticeably non-level. The big kitchen sinks are nice though. Parking is a mess. There are only 19 parking spots behind the building. A single lot goes for $175 a month. So, for example, if you are looking for a double here with your SO or friend and estimating costs and together you have two cars, just remember to add another $350 to the base rent. But honestly, you're not going to get a parking spot back there anyway since it's only 19 lots and you'll be on the waiting list. Instead your remaining options are parking on the street which is metered and will cost about $15 a day per a car, or the parking garage two blocks away which goes for $195 a month per vehicle. For all my city people or young folks who want to be here because they think it will be more fun to live in the city and have more direct access to "the nightlife", don't be fooled. Harrisburg is hardly a city. I moved to Harrisburg from out of state for a job and made this mistake only to find out that there's no shopping, recreation, and the nightlife is limited to a single block on 2nd street that has two bars, three during summer. The only one that doesn't ask for a cover charge allows smoking inside and you'll be gasping for air before you finish your first drink. Simply put, you're not going to find yourself walking around at any time in Harrisburg for any reason ever, at least not enough to justify paying to be in the city for it; so don't let "being in the city" be the reason why you pay for the Benmar. Here's my positive word of advice. If you're moving to Harrisburg from out of town, avoid HBG realty and the city overall. Just go for something on the west side of the river outside of Harrisburg, or somewhere east of the city that's closer to Hershey. The apartments will be cheaper for same or better build quality, you'll find something that at least has a fitness center, doesn't require you to pay nearly $200 a month to park your car, and if you really care about going into the city to inhale smoke and have homeless men cat-call your girlfriend you're only a 15 minute Uber ride away. No need to thank me. Cheers.
