image This is a great school with an amazing staff that cares about my child's development. Lower school (PS-5th grade) is French language immersion but the middle school has 5 language tracks, including English only, French (obviously), German, Chinese, and Spanish. The student-teacher ratio is purposefully low and my kid is eager to come to school every day. The campus is big and the other parents are so welcoming. Go visit the campus if you want to learn more about this amazing program.

image French American Int'l School has been wonderful for my two daughters. Not only do they teach high-quality language immersion but the arts, technology, music and PE are all infused in their core learning. The middle school (Gilkey) gives fantastic structure for those awkward tween years. Small class sizes and a dedicated group of teachers who have been there forever make a vibrant learning environment. The IB program is an added bonus that enhances their studies considerably. The IB load starts early and continues all the way through middle school, setting them up for a rigorous high school curriculum. Not all immersion schools provide this level of high-quality studies. French American walks their talk. Plus, they are building a new facility for their middle school! It is definitely worth checking out. The one drawback is the pick up/drop off process. It gets bogged down pretty fast.

image When your kids have historically not liked school, and then you switch to a different school (FAIS) and they repeatedly tell you how much they love their school and how they are glad they don't go anywhere else.....you thank your lucky stars that a school like FAIS exists!   This school gives kids the wiggle room, the outdoor connection, a Global perspective and basis of information for learning, a rigorous and enriching IB program, amazing art/music/PE that is woven into their everyday subjects beautifully, caring faculty, a small teacher:student ratio, and it instills a love of learning that, based on what I hear from alumni, carries on into their higher education.  And let's be real, hearing your child carry on a conversation with their teachers and friends in French is pretty darn cool.  Especially when neither parent at home speaks it!

image As a private school with a great student teacher ratio, this school isn't as expensive as others in its class. It also has a fantastic teacher retention history and they all are quite happy to stay and teach until they retire. My daughter graduated from both the lower school and the middle school and went on to get easy A's in public school. Now my son is loving being in classes that are small and well structured with no one getting out of hand to ruin the learning experience for every one else! Oh, and my daughter is fluent in French and Spanish as a result of attending the best language school in Oregon.
