Hotel Vance, Portland, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Right after I booked, they started sending me spam texts and emails to upsell me. Never in my 10 years of travel have I seen this, so I canceled my stay right away. It was super annoying.

It's actually a very nice hotel with good amenities. However, the location is not so great. It's Portland so, you know? Which is not the fault of the hotel. The hotel has a nice small/restaurant. Which is great because there is very little to choose from nearby, aside from a Safeway which didn't seem very safe at all.

Hotel Vance was a very nice stay! And while I must admit that the area itself I am not fond of, the rooms were very nice, and the service was EXCELLENT. Especially house cleaning and the front desk agent, Mason. Thank you all for all your help for our stay!

Hotel itself was decent enough by looks at first. Asked for a microwave after check-in and it was brought to the room quickly but it was filthy inside and out. Like, how the heck did the top even get that dirty, and how would you not think to wipe it off before bringing it to a guest's room? And the inside was greasy! Yuck! We let the front desk know that it didn't seem like our refrigerator was keeping temp, and we wanted to store food in it. Didn't hear anything from the by the time we had to leave for work, so we stored those items in the sink that we filled with ice - Checkout is at 11. Tell me why we got a knock on the door at 10am, on New Year's Day, with somebody in the hall telling us to call the front desk (?). We called, and the front desk told us that it was an engineer that came by to look at our refrigerator. An hour before checkout, you'd think they could reasonably assume that we don't need the fridge anymore. And, come on, it's 10am on New Year's Day, and you're a downtown hotel, it should go without saying there's a good chance your guests were up late, we were working until 3am and awake until 5. Pretty unprofessional and thoughtless. Also, a mirror in the room itself would be nice, maybe even a full-length one. One vanity mirror in the bathroom doesn't cut it. I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel that didn't have a mirror in the room. Some actual shelves and more than one hook would be helpful in the bathroom, you know, to hang clothing items and set stuff, like people do when they're getting ready. Between that, and lack of desk or a mirror in the room itself, forget about getting ready efficiently.
