    Stay away from Farmer's Insurance. After having them for years as our insurance for home, auto and rental property, they told us they were cancelling our home insurance because our roof was old and they would not replace it because it didn't have hail damage. We received the notice in October but our agent Matthew Ramirez said not to worry - it was an error due to aerial images. Their roofer came out and we had it inspected by a third party -there was/is no problem with it. It is a flat commercial-grade roof and should last another 10-15 years. They still cancelled it. By the time we went through all of the scenarios with Matthew and several inspections - it was mid December when it was confirmed that they would cancel - so we had to scramble to find new insurance right before Christmas and the Dec. 31 end to our insurance with Farmers. Apparently, after they sent the cancellation notice in October, they discontinued the auto-draft payment for November and December, which we didn't realize because we were trying to work out what was going to happen. We realized this when they sent a bill on Dec. 31. I received a letter from a collection agency this week. We knew we would pay it, but it's a bit ridiculous to send to collections so soon - especially because it was their error. Matthew Ramirez's response yesterday was to resend his email on Jan. 2 when I asked him what the bill was and he explained that they made an error in not charging my card from the auto-pay when they sent the cancellation letter. I have never had anything sent to a collection agency. Having them cancel for no legitimate reason and then send the final bill to collections 7 weeks after the first surprise bill = unethical and unprofessional. End of story - the bill is paid, but people need to know how they treat their clients.

Thanks for your input April and Michael, we appreciate your concern. Farmers and most every carrier in Okla are tightening their underwriting for both new and existing home policies. Farmers and others are depending on aerial imagery to identify roof concerns. The underwriting folks observed your older flat roof to have darker areas which your roofer had identified as water pooling, then drying. Our agency, with your roofer input, worked to lift the Dec 30 non renewal without success. The close up photos we had showed what looked like "cracking" in several areas. Try as we did, we could not overcome what the photos showed. We advocate for all of our clients on their behalf during claims and in this case, a very rare non renewal of an existing policy. We did keep communicating on this situation with you. On Dec 5 you let me know that your roofer was delayed due to a surgery he had after Thanksgiving. On Dec 19 you indicated that you had secured 3 quotes from other companies, so it seems like you were set to go with insurance to replace our Dec 31 non renewal date. It was good that you and Michael did your homework. As for the collection agency comment... on Dec 31 you asked about the $492 due on your cancelled home policy. We responded Jan 2 that the corporate billing dept had not charged your card Nov 1 or Dec 1. So the $492 was due and we informed you on this Jan 2 email to you. If it had been paid right after my Jan 2 response, then the billing dept would not have sent it to collections in Feb. I see that the payment you made was applied March 1 and you have a zero balance. Thank you for 6 years of business. I wish our business relationship had ended better. We wish you the best in the future.
