I share this experience as someone who has experience as a psychiatric social worker: Absolutely zero communication from staff to patient or staff to social supports. Zero initiative to ensure appropriate safety and discharge planning. And if you ask to speak with a treatment team member (there was a confirmed ROI on file), front staff doesnt want to call the person and ask their availability or say family wants to speak with someone - we had to call that staff member from the front desk with our own phones. Even then, god forbid that team member walk down and have a conversation with us face to face. Per my person that was admitted, zero routine or structure to help start building a base for coping going forward. There we two groups a day. During one visit, one of the PCAs was sharing a patients diagnosis and care with another family. In addition, unruly dogs present (with visitors and staff), which made having a conversation with my person impossible. The visitor dog was ESA, not a service dog (though thankfully it was well-behaved.) The staff persons dogs were clearly not therapy dogs as they were not behaved at all. I am a dog lover, but this was not the right setting.

The comucation between doc an nurses with parents is poor. I would give the front desk receptionists a 5 they where caring an understanding. They answered all my questions and help me understand how things worked .

This place should be shut down. Traumatized my daughter to her core. From abuse to police reports, I wouldnt want anyone to send their own child here.

I almost died after they put me on Zoloft, went to the ER under their care, twice, both times the doctor said lay off the Zoloft they at Sun still begged me to take the Zoloft, so I took it because I didnt want to have to stay longer, when I finally got out of their went to the ER, I had burst a lung sack WHILE at Sun because of side effects of the medicine they put me on. I stayed at St Annes hospital for another week and Ive got appointment after appointment to check up my physical healing process, too focused on that to fix my mental stuff, which landed me at Sun in the first place. If you have a choice, go somewhere else. When I begged for help they dragged me by my arms down the hall to my room and forced me to stay in there. Again, almost died from their negligence.

This was a horrible experience for my adult son in crisis! As a former therapist in an inpatient psychiatric hospital and mental health tech staff member, I am disappointed in this facility. It is only bc all of the ERs were full to capacity that we came here. The communication with unit staff and unit nurses was beyond professional. On the rare chance that the phone was working, sometimes I was asked for the pin# and sometimes I was not. My sons coat was lost, the phones dont work, staff was unknowledgeable, given conflicting information by the charge nurse. The medication was a complete disaster and discharging nurse could not tell me anything about the meds, but she handed them to me. My son left with a bad cold that he did not come in with and did not get a COVID test. Imagine my frustration when I get a call today from billing about the member portion of the bill from such a horrible experience. I pray that my son will never have to be hospitalized for a psychiatric crisis again, but if so, it will not be at Sun Behavioral Hospital!
