The Tin Trout

Wonderful casual dining experience after a day hiking at Linville Falls! My first time eating trout and I was not disappointed. It was smoky and very flavorful. Dessert is a must too! My husband had the tiramisu there and my son and I got the chocolate chip and lemon coconut cream cakes to go! All of them were amazing. We will definitely go here again when we return to the area! Vegetarian options: Many homemade vegetables and legume options. Collards and grits were delicious Kid-friendliness: Definitely family friendly.

This is a gem. I could stop there, but I'm not. I looked up several places ti dine before setting for The Tin Trout. I was not disappointed. My only complaint is that there is only 1 restaurant and it's so far away. The restaurant is quaint and the decor is speaks mountain waters. The small branch next to the restaurant is beautiful. I took my boys for lunch and of course I had Trout. I asked our waiter what he preferred and kindly recommended grilled. Hands down, best Trout I've ever ate. He was very personable and the service was 5 star. I would recommend this location to anyone traveling in this area. I will be back when traveling back to the mountains. Wow Parking: Parking is to the side and could be a bit if walk for anyone with a handicap or difficult walking. Kid-friendliness: Menu is kid friendly, and my sons loved the food. They took leftovers home it was so good. Wheelchair accessibility: Can be difficult for a wheelchair. It's worth the food but it could be difficult to navigate. It wouldn't deter me from a visit though.

Great atmosphere. Music is an eclectic mix of reggae, Paul Simon, Bill Withers... Played just loud enough to enjoy. A lot of interesting dishes to choose from on the menu. Let's start with the coconut shrimp and fried Brussels sprouts. I asked for the fried shrimp to be served with the mango salsa (because I try that wherever I go). Salsa was okay but more pickle-y than sweet. Mango flavor is lost. Coconut shrimp is very heavily over-breaded but cooked well. My server, Heidi, also brought some of their thai chili dip which is excellent on the shrimp. Same for the remoulade, which is going on my fried green tomatoes next time The shrimp comes with a side of fries which I didn't know and didn't really want, but they're ok. Homemade cole slaw was a surprise too, but is really good. Fried brussels sprouts are lightly coated in tahini with some shredded Parmesan. If you like tangy, you'll love these. I prefer a little honey drizzle on mine because of the bitterness of Brussells sprouts. A little on the high price side for an out of the way remote restaurant but I will come back to try their other dishes since it's close to me anyway. Ask for Heidi... she's a great server and a sweet local girl. If you're lucky, she'll be wearing two braids in her hair.
