My one year old dog has Happy Tail Syndrome. Essentially he wags his tail so hard it bangs in to things until he bleeds. And by bleeds, I mean slippers the walls, doors, floor - everything. I called for an appointment - explained that my breeder and trainer both felt the only solution may be a procedure to amputate it - so I asked if they did these procedures. They said yes, but theyd have to see him first. After a couple hours at their facility, I was charged $234 for: A consult, Rabies shot, fecalyzer, three meds and some shampoo. And was told no on the procedure because his issue was a skin irritation. I explained that he has banged his tail 5-6 times over the past few months (the 6th or 7th time happened in the office - he splattered blood on the walls where he met the Vet as well as in the waiting room.) So I paid and left. I immediately went to another Vet in town that had walk ins and as soon as I walked in they knew he had Happy Tail Syndrome. End result - he has an appointment for the procedure in a week and a half - (they offered to do it tomorrow!!) I went back to College View to ask for a refund for the things we were going to be needing and I was told they didnt offer refunds. And the statement was made that they didnt remove body parts from pets unnecessarily. Understood. But you certainly charge a lot of money for unnecessarily things!

Even if you have an appointment be prepared to wait. On average, I wait around 45 minutes to an hour after my scheduled appointment time to be seen. They could at least let people know that its taking longer and why, instead of leaving them in waiting rooms well past their appointment time. Ive experienced better waits at people doctors. In addition to long waits without apology, be prepared to pay $45 every time the vet looks at your dog for 20 seconds. Even for routine shots, theres a $45 charge. Today was the last straw, I've since moved on from this overpriced vet. There are far cheaper solutions in the surrounding area.

They were very good to my dog and made sure he was taken care of. The vet tech was great and went over all the different options for care. The vet though was kind of rude, when I would ask a question she would interrupt me to answer the question but she would answer a question I didn't ask I just stopped asking her questions and waited for the vet tech to come back.

Hello Mr. DrakeThank you for letting us know about your concerns. Please allow me to explain and clarify what happened, especially for those who might read your claims and wonder what actually happened. You have an eleven month old dog that you brought to us because you correctly observed happy tail and were very frustrated with the injury as well as how much of a mess it was causing in your home. He had never been seen before for this condition or for any other well or sick visit (which is why we had to do the rabies vaccine which is one of those things you called unnecessary, yet obviously is not) and so therefore there had been not even one medical attempt to treat the condition; an important fact to note (but not the only reason) as to why the doctor made the decision she did. The doctor did not refute your suspicion about happy tail nor dismiss any of your other concerns or questions. She only noted that the tail was not nearly in a condition that would warrant immediate amputation (very expensive) without attempting treatment (much cheaper) that could not only save your dog from losing his tail but would save you an extensive amount of money in the process. Combine that with the fact that before any surgery could have occurred your dog would need the very course of medication dispensed to you that day, and what we have is not a visit filled with unnecessary items but rather the exact thing your dog needed. Thank you for your time and we truly hope that your dog will receive the care he needs from your new vet and will heal quickly!

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the opportunity to address issues that our clients have. Yes, sometimes there is a wait, but it is very abnormal that our waits are more than 15 minutes, if at all. Sometimes though, a patient does come in for an emergency or an appointment prior to yours may take a turn and cause an extra delay for others. We try to serve everyone as thoroughly as possible, whether the delay is with their appointment or the one before. We regret that we can not be perfectly on time with every appointment, but as I'm sure you know from experience, sometimes things out of our control happen; that is medicine, whether human or animal. As far as the office visit, yes, we do charge for each time a pet requires an exam. Certain vaccinations require an exam prior to administering the vaccine; not just a medical necessity but also one that the vaccine manufacturers recommend in the uncommon but possible event of a reaction to the vaccine. There are far cheaper solutions in the area, but with cheaper solutions come cheaper quality and we may not be the cheapest but we are by far not the most expensive and yet as one of only three practices that hold to the highest standards of AAHA accreditation (one other being our hospital location) you will definitely not find any higher quality medicine anywhere in the area.
