I've had the pleasure of staying here twice and absolutely love it. Patrick is more than accommodating and an excellent cook. Every place to dine at that was recommended was great. The porch has a quaint view and everything you need is in walking distance. He is and his establishment are truly a rare gem in his community and to mankind. Thank you for letting me stay there and for the great conversations. Rooms: The rooms are more than spacious, big bathrooms, great decorations and room accommodations. Each room has a fridge and microwave, with plenty of clothing storage for longer visits. The dining room and den are amazing. Patrick decor is timeless and you feel that throughout the house no matter which room you stay in. Nearby activities: Kayaking, swimming, boating, sailing, water skiing, axe throwing, and bowling Safety: Everyone there as nice and friendly Walkability: From the pine and porch bar around the corner to the downtown dining it is all within 2-5 minutes through a quiet historic neighborhood. Food & drinks: Best breakfast in town, and I've almost tried it all in 10 days. Patrick is a great cook, and has the best recommendations as to where to go. Noteworthy details: There are so many fascinating things about the house and community. Seeing the warehouse that stored the old blimps was astonishing. The blue ruby itself is an amazing piece of history.

The room was amazing. Breakfast was so delicious. The owner Patrick, was so gracious and over accommodating. He upgraded our room without asking. We will definitely stay here for now on when I visit my (Birthplace) home town. Patrick s dog was so cute. He greets you and loves to visit. We felt at home. Rooms: Our King suite was spacious with a living room. The bathroom was the size of a bedroom. Nearby activities: The Museum is in walking distance as well. The water is near as well. Safety: We felt safe and cant wait to go back. Walkability: Walking to downtown area is a plus! Food & drinks: Breakfast was amazing. I love French toast but Patricks is the best I ever had. My husband had eggs , bacon and potatoes, he loved it as well.

About
Blue Ruby at Grice-Fearing House Bed and Breakfast
Originally constructed in 1798 by Francis Grice, the Blue Ruby at Grice-Fearing House Bed & Breakfast is the oldest residence in Elizabeth City and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1808, the house was willed to Grice’s widow, who eventually remarried Isaiah Fearing. The property remained in the Fearing family for more than 160 years. The place adapted to accommodate growing needs, as it passed from one generation to another. A smaller house located on a neighbouring property was rolled over on logs and coupled with the Fearing home in 1840, later adding a new southern wing and the northern wing in 1885. A fire in 1948 resulted in some structural loss. However, original craftsmanship has managed to survive decades of modifications and remains a welcoming port in this harbour town.
