I took martial arts with Sifu Bob for a couple of years, starting right before the pandemic. The only reason I'm not there anymore is because I'm in another part of the state. Man, do I miss him and everyone else so much! He taught me so much in 2 years, even through virtual classes when it was needed. Not many instructors have the patience and knowledge to teach their students the way Sifu Bob did. He pushed me to challenge myself and helped me feel stronger and more empowered in my practice. I don't think I'll ever find another instructor like Sifu nor fellow classmates like those at 4 Winds.

I trained at 4 Winds for several years before moving away, and I will always look back fondly on my time there. Sifu Bob is an incredible instructor, and the environment at 4 Winds is supportive and welcoming to everyone. I still value the self defense skills I learned along with the discipline and confidence I gained from my training.

Shortly after moving to the Cary/Raleigh area about a year ago, I decided to give 4 Winds Martial Arts a try after getting a taste of a similar martial arts program in my previous town. 4 Winds has become one of my favorite things about living in this area! Sifu Bob (the owner/head instructor) has designed a great curriculum that steadily progresses and is always challenging yet doable with practice. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area, whether you are a novice (like me) or more experienced.

I have been with Sifu Bob Melander since 2017. I have studied several different martial arts and have varying levels. I got my 1st degree black belt in 2022. I have also attended and completed all 3 levels of Tai Chi and can teach that as well. I can't say enough about Sifu Bob as an instructor and mentor. His wisdom and knowledge in martial arts and Kajukenbo Tum Pai are incredible. Even though I have my 1st degree I learn something new everyday. Here it is not about contracts and money, it is about martial arts and learning. I was always a very aggressive Karate student (1st degree as well.) Through Kajukenbo Tum Pai, Tai Chi and Sifu Bob I am no longer aggressive and have learned that sometimes relaxation is what you need to be a warrior. It isn't about strength it's about technique.

I have been a student at 4 winds Martial Arts for 6 years now, studying Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong under Sifu Bob Melander. Sifu Bob is an excellent martial arts instructor, who shows deep personal interest in his student's success. He utilizes several different ways of teaching to match his students' learning style and maximize learning for both beginners and advanced students, regardless of age. I have especially enjoyed learning the self defense applications of Tai Chi Chuan. Sifu Bob is absolutely enthusiastic about teaching and martial arts and he has vast knowledge, beyond the skills, of the deeper layers of true martial arts. He motivates and encourages his students to overcome mental blocks and grow in confidence and skill. I highly recommend 4 Winds Martial Arts and Sifu Bob for anyone who is looking for martial arts school to start training. Merya Wolfe
