Sifu Bob provides training different from most schools. I have taken Gung Fu and Tai Chi in college and his training adds a different dimension to the martial arts mind set which provides me with a new perspective. As a 55 year old, I find the training exceptional and pushes me to limits within my realm. Kajukenbo Tum Pai provides a unique perspective on mixed martial arts that's not about cage fighting but survival in self defense scenarios you might encounter..Sifu Bob is a great person and cares deeply about his students to learn in a respectful and positive environment that all should prosper. Helps with physical and spiritual fitness too, check it out if interested!

I have found the style of martial arts training I have been looking for. Over the years I have tried multiple disciplines and now I have found a home with Sifu Bob Melander. His teaching, understanding and knowledge is effective for beginners and advanced students of all ages. The instruction is very efficient and effective. Sifu makes a personal connection with each student and is very patient with all learning styles. I look forward to class every time! It’s wonderful for practical self defense, self awareness, mind and body, physical fitness and is just fun! Sifu is truly a hidden gem here in the triangle!

After 10+ plus years of wanting to take martial arts I went out on a limb and emailed 4 Winds one random night. I got a response within hours and was greeted with open arms from Sifu. I had no prior martial arts experience and not once felt intimidated by his instruction or others in the class. He has a way of making everyone want to work harder while also making us feel at home. Sifu's introductory classes are a great way to witness all the wonderful things people have said in the reviews. I was ready to commit within 15 minutes of my first observation so I have a good feeling you will want to try it out! I don't think you'll find a better place.

I would highly recommend 4 Winds to anyone interested in martial arts and self-defense training. Sifu Bob offers an unparalleled experience through his teaching of the eclectic mixed martial arts style known as Kajukenbo. The 3 free introductory classes are a great opportunity for new students to get exposed to the class before they make a commitment, and I'm personally very glad I tried it. After only 2 months I can already clearly see the applications of the self-defense techniques we have learned. I had very limited marital arts experience prior to joining 4 Winds and was basically a beginner at age 40. But Sifu Bob's experience and teaching style make the class beneficial for anyone, whether an experienced martial artist or a novice like myself. The small class size allows a lot of hands on time with Sifu for each student, and he does a great job of rotating more experienced students around with newer students to get everyone the attention and development they need. There is a great camaraderie between the students and new comers quickly feel welcome among the long-time students, and you can tell Sifu genuinely cares about his students. It's an environment that for me was much more appealing that the cookie cutter strip mall chain studio you see on every block. There is also a tremendous health benefit to the training, particularly from the softer forms of Tai Chi and Qigong that are woven into the training. If you've been thinking about trying martial arts and never found the right place, or just feel like you need to learn some basic self defense, look no further!

I have trained in 4 Winds Martial Arts, under Sifu Bob Melander now for 4 months as his private student. I had been looking for Tai Chi Chuan instructor for awhile to help me get back to practicing Tai Chi on daily basis for my physical, mental and spiritual benefit. Being a senior ( in the school of life!) I need a gentler and definetly a patient approach from the instructor. Sifu Bob has had that patience. He identified from the start what learning style I needed and provided visual images to support memory recall. He has answered my numerous questions demonstrating wealth of knowledge and understanding of all external, internal and spiritual aspects of Tai Chi as well as its applications to self defense. His instructional style is friendly, caring and personable. He has respectfully discouraged me from engaging in self-defeating thinking patterns which would block my progress. I'm greatful for that. In short: Sifu Bob absolutely knows what he teaches and he teaches it well! I can highly recommend him for both private and group instruction of Tai Chi Chuan!
