My total misconception was that a child's particular situation and issues/difficulties were assessed by the behavioral urgent care unit and if the clinicans found a child to be in need of immediate intervention that it would be properly addressed.
As in a referral to the necessary specialists to be seen in a timely manner as the child clearly is in a vulnerable place and their mental and physical health is being greatly affected. Nothing but print outs from websites I've already seen and called. Not even a referral or a note or even a call to a colleague? Couldn't even try to see if there's a way to get an eight year old boy with a congenital heart defect; a child you evaluated and could see is in crisis and you said most likely is autistic in to be diagnosed so he can get the services he desperately needs?
How do you feel about yourselves knowing you told my child today that he isn't important? How is this a children's hospital? Only for the right children unfortunately.
To bring your child to an urgent care center because the situation is that delicate and precarious and have the professionals assess and validate your worst fears and concerns and then show you the door was defeating at best. The most cruel thing is my son on the way home said he believed Dr. T actually liked him and would help. Reject me fine but for a child in his condition to be dismissed again by adults who he trusted to help was an assault. The child feels bad enough and this how they treat him?
Finally I say this; all those years of school and training and supposedly wanting to help people and these doctors can turn a child away in need of at the very least a phone call to get him the immediate evaluation they know him to need... Well at least there's today to bill insurance for...
