    Bennington Heights has been an affordable residence while on a waitlist for another more affordable apartment complex. I expected when I moved here in August I would be moving again; by Thanksgiving I told my adult children I like my apartment, the community & staff so much I could be happy if I never moved again. I have a 1st floor, 1 bedroom/1 bath unit. It was painted & new carpeting installed in living room & bedroom. Full appliance packagefridge, stove & rangehood & garbage disposal appeared to be original to the unit, although dishwasher had been replaced at some timemore on appliances later. The clubhouse is lovelyleasing office, business center (computers & printer available for resident use), immaculate laundry facility, fitness center & outdoor pool. We toured a 1 bedroom, 1 bath model and it was impressive how much usable space was in a 600+ sf apartment. Plenty of parking, trash bins and mailbox banks located conveniently throughout the complex. Though I didnt need it, there is an off leash dog park for the 4 legged tenants of the community, although some tenants are inconsiderate and let their dogs run off leash around the buildings. Also plenty of pet waste stations around the complex, unfortunately some tenants dont make use of those and let their animals leave their waste around the parking lots. Bennington Heights is located between I-270 & State 141 for convenient navigating around StLouis metro. Sufficient grocery stores, retail & entertainment venues in convenient proximity. When I moved into my apartment, I installed fridge & oven thermometers in the appliances, turned on all the surface burners on the electric range3 heated, 1 did not. The fridge & freezer registered in expected temps for each part. They fixedreplacedthe burner that didnt heat. The oven kept overheating when I used it. Within 2 weeks, they changed out the heating & air conditioning thermostat to a simpler variety, repaired the toilet flush handle that broke & replaced vanes twice in the vertical blinds at the patio door. Then the garbage disposal failed after business hours & they promptly came & replaced it. A week later the refrigerator leaked water onto the floor 2x. They generously replaced the fridge, stove & range hood the next day. The maintenance staff have all been extremely pleasant & responsive in every request Ive presented. The grounds crew keep the green space mowed & trimmed & blow grass debris off the ground level patios. Consistent pest extermination was appreciatedthough not particularly effective with the crickets in summer & fall. The neighbors in my building & adjacent building have all been very friendly & welcoming, sometimes despite language & cultural barriers. What could be improved upon Grounds: the gumball pods that fall from the trees on the ground & sidewalks are tripping hazards! Moles have had a hay day on the hill & landscaping in front of my patioregular applications of grub killer will bring an end to that nuisance. Sidewalks in low areas are under several inches of muddy water when it rains for any length of timethey need to be raised &/or drainage on either side of walks improvedmajor project. Entrance to building: trim at exterior doors, inside doors & common area walls need to be painted white or brighter neutrals to improve appearance & maximize lighting; replace weather stripping at bottom of exterior door to keep out crickets & other bugs & limit drafts for 1st floor apartments; replace the all weather carpeting in entrance & on stairsthey are filthy & slick from accumulated dust & debris. Living room & bedroomthe carpeted areasinstall baseboards to prevent damage to drywall while vacuuming & keep crickets or other bugs from wintering in walls. Better yetreplace all carpeted areas with vinyl plank & baseboards & be done with cleaning & replacing carpets! Kitchen: better lighting & more cabinetsopen shelves above base cabinets would be great! Pantry is a plus. Bedroom closet: better lighting. Front closet: lighting of any kind!
