A couple of random facts before I weigh in as a former resident: This place at one time was a mafia hotel. As such, it had hidden wall safes. For the sake of anonymity, I won't reveal any names. From Firsthand experience, I can tell you that Times were interesting when it was under it's final phase of it's rough life as a Residential Care Facility; Believe me when I say the place was badly dilapidated, falling apart, and had been truly on its last legs. A Social worker from the state had walked in one day and was thoroughly repulsed with the absolute state of This facility, and as one could imagine, there were contributing factors as to why it had been closed down. These factors are, The whole third floor was sealed shut by way of doors being screwed shut, largely due to it having been fire damaged some years ago, barely stable as a storage area for items belonging to the maintenance guy who had been there since the building was amity boarding care. The porch had a gaping hole in the floor covered by an unfastened piece of plywood, there were floorboards cracking and coming loose, expired food was cooked and served. I can't imagine Division of Health and Senior Services taking too kindly to this. And then of course the laundry machines were often broken down due to residents overloading them and mistreating them. Management also knew well how to cut corners at every possible turn, sans the massive electric bills. However, they did have Alcoholics Anonymous come in and this had been helpful to the residents willing to work the program and battle their alcoholism. Nevertheless, It has been demolished, and every last piece of rubble has been hauled off. The Mafia hotel/Amity Boarding Care/Thompson Care Center is now just a memory.
