I have never experienced care like I did on Sunday at Mercy. As a medical staff worker myself. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth, especially the lack of compassion given by a midwife. She really needed to learn to read the situation and show some empathy for her patients. Her exact words were “ I think you just need to be patient with this pregnancy, you were just here a week ago.†& asking me question why am coming to Mercy when my obgyn doctor is at SSM. While miscarriages symptoms like cramping and bleeding are common, they can be alarming to the person experiencing them. It makes it especially difficult when the symptoms are severe, or a patient’s clinic isn't open, which is why many women find themselves heading to the ER to receive care. There was a lack of compassion for what I was enduring. The midwife needs more resources on how to treat patients who view their miscarriage as a serious emotional loss. Guidelines include sensitive triage of an emotional emergency, handling the products of conception in a dignified manner if the patient requests, and providing detailed discharge instructions so the patient knows what to expect when they go home. She didn’t even show her face after the ultrasound nor did she inform me on details on what she viewed after having to call in a second midwife to help with the ultrasound. I am a African American and I delivered my daughter at Mercy I would like to voice my concern so that my voice is heard along with other African Americans or Latinos who receives adequate care physically for a miscarriage. Staff rarely addresses the emotional side—feelings of grief and loss. Sometimes the grieving process can cause a woman to feel shock, denial, and anger. If grief is addressed, patients can avoid mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, that are also commonly seen when women and families are unable to process these losses. If left untreated, these can lead to long-term mood disorders, future perinatal complications, and even thoughts of suicide or self-harm. In conclusion Mercy did not show its core values along with the mission statement patients see as they walk through that door.

The worst experience ever. Been waiting in the emergency room for 4 hours without seeing a doctor except some nice talking nurses!! Asking for some water, but they are waiting for doctors clearance to provide me a cup of water. I can't believe what would happen if it was a severe case! These doctors and the facility should not be allowed to handle serious cases! What a disgrace!!!

This used to be my go to hospital but now I'm not so sure I want to go back the nurses were wonderful but those doctors are rough I had a doctor hold a conversation with me while I was having a spinal tap and all of a sudden he says STOP TALKING when he pulls the needle out I almost jumped off of the table then when I make it back upstairs I asked the Dr could he give me a work note for 2 days because I work in a child care setting which requires me to lift he told me no to talk to my primary doctor but you are the one releasing me? I'm reasonable this isn't my first spinal tap and my back is really sore i honestly didn't even want to stay i just wanted to get the spinal tap and leave i only go there because my neurologist and neurosurgeon is there but now I don't care for the neurologist because they are saying they won't see me for anything iih related correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you supposed to see a neurologist for that?
