image Sharing my experience in hopes to stop people from coming here, especially if you have anxiety when going to the dentist which I know most people have so this should say something.
I chipped my tooth to the point it hurt to take bites of food and chew, and when I was seen by the dentist (Dr. Berhe, I believe.) he barely BARELY spent much time talking to me about my issue. He mumbled to himself a lot, which I found strange as I like whole open communication when I'm dealing with teeth issues (who wouldn't?). He tested the sensitivity of my chipped tooth and, without warning, blasted my tooth with a hard air hose. It hurt. And THEN, without much hesitation, he proceeded to say, VERY CASUALLY, that I need to get it extracted. He proceeded to explain why I needed it extracted, saying I had some infection under my tooth in my gums which he vaguely explained and pointed at random spots on my x-rays. I've never had a tooth extracted for infection reasons before, I take pretty good care of my teeth, so I was surprised he was willing to just throw the whole tooth away. But then I realized today that everything Dr. Berhe said was wrong and he is in fact very uneducated & unprofessional, and only saw me as a big $$$. They were expecting me to pay over 5k for this dental procedure... 5 thousand dollars for barely speaking to me. How do I know he was wrong?
WELL, I went to McLaren Associates today and was treated with actual care and respect, you know, the normal kind you'd anticipate from dentists. (being kind and reassuring and gentle IS NOT HARD). The dentist was absolutely amazing, she genuinely cares about my condition, and when she finished diagnosing me, it was found out that wow, I didn't need a tooth extraction AT ALL. She was indeed quite shocked to hear that Aspen Dental wanted to just take out my tooth (I'm 29 by the way), without even first trying to the necessary steps first. She did several extra tests that Dr. Berhe didn't do, and it proved to her that my tooth was still worth fighting for. She also said she didn't see any infection in my gums under that tooth. Dr. Berhe basically looked at me like I was a big dollar sign, and actually was hoping I was stupid enough to drop that much money that, in this economy, NOBODY HAS (tone deaf) over barely spending any time with me to discuss safe alternatives to a very important issue, and what caused me very unnecessary amounts of stress, all turned out to be fixed by people who actually know how to treat people like proper human beings.
Do not go to this Asspen Dental, do not go to ANY Asspen Dental, unless you do not take your oral health seriously because wow I could have lost my tooth FOR NO REASON. Good thing I have proper discernment. Good luck to the nurses, they were nice but they should try to be a little sweeter, this is your career after all, you should genuinely try and enjoy it and enter the career to help the community, not for a bag.
