Oh my God! Haberman's should be a national landmark, bought by some institute and preserved like the time capsule it is. Entering it is like entering some alternate universe. The floors are wooden, the aisles are narrow, and the place just jammed with merchandise from decades ago. They've got soft pink reader bulbs, Malathion pesticide, sunburnt orange thermoses, spare percolator parts, dead stock tan lamps, unpolarized extension cords and more. Some of the stuff there is so old its priced with Sharpie or a hanging card tag. Absolutely amazing. They have some modern stuff too, nestled amidst the old and so dwarfed by the old that it looks like a weird intrusion with its shiny packaging and lack of dust.Go here before it closes. It's been for sale for a while... which means it'll probably just get abandoned sooner rather than later, then sit like the old auto parts store next to it for a few decades.

I just love this place! I've been going to this store on a regular basis (about three times a month) for about a year now to buy various supplies for my house projects. While its an old dusty hardware store, of the old-timer variety, they have a remarkable amount of New-Old stock items, hard to find pieces of hardware for the house, etc. ...and most importantly, at least some of the guys who work there, the older ones in particular, have good knowledge of what they have and how things are used/installed, unlike at the big-box stores where often times the employees are hardly trained, let alone knowledgeable about the products they carry. I hope this place stays around as they are becoming increasingly hard to find these days as more and more big-box stores replace them.
