The Academy for Active Learners

I cant say enough about this daycare! My son has been there for 2.5 years and it continues to amaze me how great it is. The teachers are fantastic, I get an update every day when I pick him up, they encourage us (as parents) on ways to help him learn and grow (from bottle feeding to potty training to trying new foods).They care about my son, and not just because its their job, but because they genuinely love what they do - its evident in the way they hug him and encourage him every day. Even before the pandemic I remember walking in and it was spotless, bright, fun and welcoming. The way the pandemic was handled was superior - we were grateful that not only have they stayed open, but my sons learning was not impacted. I was terrified as a new mom dropping him off, but looking back, I never should have worried, they treat him like their own and I am so appreciative of that. Most importantly, my son is so happy to go there every day. We have moved out of portland but I refuse to go anywhere else because I am so attached to everything about this daycare, I look forward to the rest of the time he (we) have there! Best daycare ever!

My 3yo has gone to the Academy since he was 3 months. I feel like they are a third parent - so invested in his wellbeing, so communicative, and sharing their guidance whenever we need it. Im already getting sad that he only has a couple more years with them!

Updated February 2022 - Staff has been consistently excellent despite some turnover, which I'm sure is due to the industry and COVID-19. Communication between teachers and parents is amazing and The Academy does a nice job of keeping students safe and keeping the facility open. We are very happy with our experience here and would recommend The Academy to anyone looking for childcare. I really can't say enough positive things about this daycare. We shopped around and many of the places that I visited seemed focused on just keeping the kids safe until the end of the day. At the Academy, I never worry about safety, but I also know that my son is having fun, being active, and learning every day. He is only in the one year old room, but they have a scheduled day that includes lots of active playtime (outside and in a big gym that is also available in bad weather), singing and books, and arts and crafts. He loves going there and talks about it all the time. The staff have been wonderful. He has had the same lead teacher and a few different support teachers during the time he has been there. All have been very sweet, so patient, and so focused on the kids. I really like that the owner is a young mom herself and naturally understands all of the angst that comes with leaving your child in someone else's care. It seems that she has very high standards for safety, cleanliness, and staff. And finally, speaking of staff, my son's teachers never even batted an eye when we asked if they could help us accommodate his dietary requirements. They have handled it easily and without drama. Love this place!

Our family is so happy at the the Academy, they have taken great care of our children since our newborn daughter started attending in 2016 and continuing with our son currently in attendance. The teachers go above and beyond in making the days interesting for the children and actively communicate with us. The facility is modern, clean with trained staff and the reason we can be at work knowing our children are/were actively playing, learning and safe. We hold the owner, teachers and curriculum in the highest regards.

My son has been attending The Academy since he was 9 months old and is currently 4. He absolutely LOVES going to school which is a testimony to the wonderful staff! They make every day safe and happy with their ability to form nurturing relationships with all kiddos and the fantastic curriculum helping kids grow leaps and bounds from a very young age. I am truly amazed at how much he has learned from attending The Academy. I had a daughter at the beginning of the pandemic, and as any parent would be, I was extremely nervous to send her to daycare especially with an underlying health condition. I did take an extended maternity leave, and she started a year ago as a one-year old. It has been the absolute best decision! The Academy has been so incredibly supportive and communicative about my worries. She is thriving, happy and loves her teachers and friends! As a parent, I couldnt be happier with The Academy especially when you see your children run to their teachers and say every day I love school! I am grateful for the safe, happy and healthy environment my children are provided with each day.
