Infer what you will I won't say bad things about Real Deal Auto or Mr. Gosselin. If you plan to buy a used car here in Maine buy the service contract or dealer warranty. If you do, your car isn't being purchased "as is" and is therefore covered by Maines Implied Warranty for 4 years. Maines implied warranty has an easy form letter you can send to get your car fixed or returned to the dealer if for instance the transmission, radiator, catalytic converter, muffler and sway bars have to be replaced and the dealer tells you to “go pound sand” hypothetically. Especially if the car was purchased 8 months ago and has only been sitting in my aged mothers garage since… hypothetically of course. Additionally if someone refuses your certified mail there's no reason you can't continue legal proceedings so long as you can prove that you tried to reach the other party and bonus, they wont know when the court date is. I of course do not wish to imply that Real Deal Auto doesn't sell good cars. This is only advice to CYA in case the worse happens to you. Personally I hope this helps others thinking of buying a used car and that it helps me get in contact with Mr. Gosselin as he has been hard to reach recently.

This at first seemed like it was going to be a good experience. They have clean cars and were upfront with what they could (couldn't) offer for my trade in. I appreciate this, I can't stand dealerships that beat around the bush. I test drove a used 2006 AUDI A4 that was very clean and seemed well cared for. This seems to generally be the case for the cars on their lot. From here, things got rocky. I asked to have my shop look at the car and they were somewhat hesitant to let me take the car 10mi to my shop. They did decide that they would let me do this. And you should too. If there's anything I can say it's that I cannot stress enough how important it is to take a used car to a shop for a pre-purchase inspection. My shop said the car was in good shape overall but he noted coolant on the back of the engine. He said it was likely leaking from hose or fitting on the back. I went back to Real Deal and told them I was interested but my shop had found the leak. They then assured me that there was no leak. They told me the cooling system had been flushed and bled and this was the coolant my mechanic saw. They even had Real Deal's tech come over to talk to me about it and assure me it wouldn't be an issue. I felt uncomfortable because it didn't see, like the coolant would have dripped over there during the procedure. I wanted their word that they would fix this if it was in fact leaking. They agreed, and I proceeded to talk them down on the price that was above book value to the high end of the value (typical of any dealership). I drove off with the car and a week later, guess what? The coolant was down below LOW and I had a nice puddle on my garage floor. What followed was one of the most unprofessional experiences I've had. They told me to bring the car in to asses the issue. I did and the tech agreed it was leaking. He told me he would order the part and they would call me. They didn't. I called back a week later and they told me they didn't know they were supposed to call me. We then scheduled the repair for the next week. They then proceeded to cancel my appointments 5 times over the next two months. Eventually, yes, they kept their word after many calls, many arrangements for rides, standing in front of their shop in the snow being ignored, and going through 2 gallons of coolant. I'll add they wouldn't let me borrow a car, or give me a ride to my office which is 1.5mi down the road. So, I drove the car for a week now and it seems like the repair worked, it's not leaking. But guess what? They didn't put everything back together correctly. They left the entire splash guard off of my car and left several bolts out on the underside.

I found my Subaru Outback on CarGurus through Real Deal Auto. Emailed with Kevin for a couple of weeks (nearly 60 emails) and set up a loan before I even saw the car. He answered all of my questions and gave me all the information I needed. I finally traveled 1 1/2 hours to see the car and it was better than I hoped. Excellent customer service from Kevin, Moe, and the team. They even put a little extra gas in it for my trip home. Very pleasant experience and I love my new car 😊 Thanks, guys!
