My long time State Farm agent retired and I was placed with The Calvin Lam Agency. From the start I felt like the majority of people I spoke with had very little long term experience in the Insurance world. In May my husband and I had our very first home owners claim. We had a our ceiling collapse into our kitchen, from a flood in our upstairs bathroom. I called the agency, with no response. After hours passing I called the national number for State Farm.We were told to have a mitigation company come out and an a claims adjuster would be coming out shortly to access the damage.  After 1 week of removal of drywall, fans and dehumidifiers in our home or adjuster came by. All during this time NEVER ONCE HEARING FROM THE LAM AGENCY.  Once the adjuster came out he couldn't believe we were living in our home under the conditions. He said why aren't you in a hotel??? I was unaware that our policy covered full hotel stay, in addition to anything over what would be normal living costs for meals etc... I had to have my adjuster fill me in, since this was our very first claim I had no idea these options were available to me. Furious, I called the agency and spoke to Calvin directly. He 100% passed the buck and said that the local agents normally don't handle that end and the Claims agent should have told me. His lack of care or understanding was beyond infuriating. Like a good neighbor, Calvin Lam is a joke of an agent. Immediately changed agents as soon as my claim was handled.
