My 89 year old grandmother is suffering from Alzheimers. She previously had full-time in-home healthcare. During a bad bout of sundowners she called the police because she thought she was in danger. Unfortunately, the officers didnt understand what was going on and they sent her to the emergency room. From there, the hospital transported her without our knowledge to a psychiatric hospital, where they then pumped her full of antipsychotics. It was the most difficult time our family has ever had. Without an appointment we stopped at Bickford of Gurnee looking for any supports or any options we might have. They could not have been more supportive and understanding of our situation. They not only helped us through everything but they sent a nurse out to see my grandmother to evaluate her and determine that she could be placed at Bickford. The day finally came where she was released and moved to her new home. Since then my grandmother has decreased her meds, shes lucid, put weight back on and has returned to her previous self. The nurses and caregivers are so patient and understanding. Theyre in constant communication with us, which lets our family heal from the trauma we all endured when my grandmother was wrongfully placed. Knowing where she is every day, knowing that there are people surrounding her that are understanding, compassionate, communicative and loving, allows all of us to sleep better at night. We will forever be eternally grateful to the people at Bickford. My grandmother has friends and community there. Shes constantly involved in activities, which helps keep her mind sharp. My family is so grateful to be able to pop in at any time day or night. we often stop in to visit and the residents are all involved in some fun activity like birthday celebrations, arts and crafts or hitting a piata and celebration of baseballs opening day. We cannot recommend Bickford enough. Placing your loved one in a home is one of the most difficult things youll ever have to do. For anyone who is struggling with this very difficult transition in a loved ones life Bickford of Gurnee is a truly supportive accommodating facility to guide you throughout the transition.

I cannot say enough about the warm feeling you get when entering Bickford of Gurnee. We have been looking for the perfect home away from home for my mom and we can't wait for her to move in next week. From the very first phone call, to my first visit and everything in between, my anxiety has been put at ease. Abby is amazing and truly treats you like a family member, answering questions and caring not just for the individual moving in but also the entire family unit. Thank you Abby and we cannot wait to meet more of the Bickford family.

We moved our Mother into the Bickford just over a week ago, and it this 1st week is any indication of how her life will be moving forward, we are thrilled. Our Mom is happy, and joining in activities we never thought she would! She was even doing ceramics and our Mom is not a crafter. lol We are so happy we found the Bickford, because we were planning to move our Mom to a different facility, but over time, we felt as though they would be treating our Mom like a patient instead of a person. From the 1st consultation with Abby, (who is so caring), we knew had found the right place for our Mother. Abby said that she would have her own apartment, and a sense of community with the activities and other residents. Move in day, it was very emotional for our Mom, being that she was leaving her home of over 60 years. When we arrived, she was teary eyed, and scared. Within seconds some of the staff members, and Abby approached her with hugs and words of encouragement. It was truly like out of a movie set "cue the staff", but their care and compassion was truly genuine and put Mom at ease. Within minutes she was smiling, you could see the relief in her face. The facility is clean, bright and beautifully decorated. The apartments are spacious. Miguel made sure the move went smoothly and quickly for our movers. He showed the movers the best place to park and loaned us his fob for easy access. Once we had all her belongings in place, Joe, came to set up her TV and showed her how to use the remote. Everyone is so kind and caring. After only being there for a few days, our Mom said she liked it and had friends!!! On one visit, we were able to meet some of her friends, and you would have thought they had been life-long friends, as they laughed and teased with one another. The sense of community is outstanding. While our Mom is a people person, the fact that our Mom can, also, have her own space and live independently is exactly what she needed/wanted. The food is plentiful, while being appropriately portioned. Mom says it's very good and is worried about gaining weight because of all the desserts:) All this being said, my siblings and I feel a huge sense of relief that our Mom's needs are being taken care of in a warm and compassionate way. We definitely feel like we made the right decision choosing Bickford for our Mom. If you are considering moving your loved on here, we highly recommend it.

Having to move our dad to assisted living was super hard decision, but Abby and all her staff at Bickford have been wonderful. They are caring, kind and compassionate. The outdoor patio space is lovely and the movie nights and entertainment are also wonderful. Thank you!

I am very pleased with Bickford of Gurnee. My father has dementia and we had been having a very difficult time finding a place for him. He started to wander but he really wouldn't be happy in the typical lockdown memory care facility. Enter Bickford. They have the ability to keep him safe from wondering, as they have locked assisted living. The best part, they know how to deal with dementia patients without medicating them. We had a rocky start with miscommunication, but once we were able to iron out the issues, both mine and theirs, we are all very happy.
