        Had an in office procedure and ended up being 1 of 19 patients infected with mycobacterium due to non sterile sutures and/or equipment. Had to have all sutures removed and endured many other procedures to reduce excess scarring due to bacterial infection destroying tissue.

      Dr. Luis A. Viñas opened the doors to L.A. Vinas M.D. Plastic Surgery, Med Spa and Skin Care Centers in 2009 to provide South Florida’s men and women with the confidence that everyone deserves. In order to expand his comprehensive skin care services, the doctor opened LA Vinas Plastic Surgery and Skin Cancer Center in Port St. Lucie and the new Skin Cancer Center in Okeechobee. Vinas M.D. Plastic Surgery, Med Spa and Skin Care Centers, the doctor has been named the Best of South Florida Plastic Surgeon (2009), and his office was also named the Best of South Florida. In 2012, he was appointed Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital.       Dr. Vinas is actively pursuing legal action against the suture manufacturer and distributor based on evidence that the sutures were contaminated during the manufacturing process.There is NO evidence that any equipment used in Dr Vinas’ office was in any way contaminated or caused any of the infections. The sutures arrive sterile and separately packaged.The Health Department conducted a thorough investigation of the location and equipment and found no violations or problems found.Out of the thousands of office procedures Dr Vinas performs each and every year no patients, other than this situation, suffered any complications of any sort. As soon as Dr. Vinas and his staff discovered the cause of the localized infections arising from the same internal suture type, they reported it, stopped using the sutures company and the issue resolved overnight. Dr Vinas is very meticulous in maintaining a sterilized facility and equipment, and takes patient care very seriously.
