National Car Rental

Customer service is the worst Ive seen at any national location, you cant call them to let them know youre running late but on the app it shows theyre expecting you except when you arrive they tell you too bad we gave away your rental and they dont wear name tags so its not like you can complain to their manager or the company about anyone specific! I honestly expected better and any other location is what I should have done I will never be back!

I reserved a convertible 2 months ago from the downtown location. When I was on my way to National, they called me and said the convertible had a flat tire. They didn't have a car for me to rent. I asked if the airport had one. They said they couldn't check - I had to call myself. I tried calling but couldn't reach them. I also tried Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, and several others. Two said they had no cars, and the others didn't answer. I ended up sharing an Uber with a co-worker back to the airport. National there didn't have a car for me to rent. The only car I could find was at a competitor who was trying to gouge me for $1,000 per day plus fees (about $1,200 per day). I got another Uber to the Airport National, where I sat and waited for a car to be returned. I ended up with a sedan. It was dirty and had 1/3 tank of gas (they marked it as empty to help cover the cost of the Uber). They said they gave me a break on the price, but it was still $100/day plus taxes and fees and insurance for the basic sedan (not a luxury model). I spent the first 3 hours of my vacation arguing on the phone and traveling all over Tampa trying to get a rental, when I had a reservation. I ended up with a car I didn't want, and paying far too much for it. They had an attitude of "Yes you had a reservation. No, we don't have a car. No, we won't help you get a rental from another National location. What do you expect me to do about it?" I am an Emerald Club member because National is the preferred rental vendor for my company. I have tried renting from 3 different National locations last year but they had no cars each time. I have yet to ever have a positive experience with National. This will be my LAST time renting with National.

Regan at this location was absolutely phenomenal!! She went above and beyond to get us on the road and provided amazing customer service!

We walked from the Port Tampa cruise pier (20 min) arriving at two hours early. We were greeted by a team that arrived on time and was immediately professional courteous and attentive as they opened the shop. Here in downtown Tampa they had the vehicle we reserved at the agreed upon rate ready to go. Our service team at this location met our every expectation. We headed off for Miami content that our vacation would continue without concern. My observation is regardless of location, the team at National, Alamo, Enterprise are always head and shoulders above any other retail rental counter,
