District 22 Medical Examiner

My son died July 2023. This is March 2024. I have yet to have the ME sign off on whatever they sign off on to release my son's effects to me. I wrote in February, and again in March 2024. I requested, on this second request, to at least acknowledge my email, since they ignored it the first time. It has now been 8 (EIGHT) MONTHS! David Winterhalter wrote back, "Reports will be sent upon completion" No phone call. No explanation. No apology for getting a weekly paycheck without having to do their jobs. I see by a previous review that this is typical of this office. There is no opportunity to award zero stars, so they got one from me.

Losing a loved one is emotional & unbearable enough but to then be lied to & treated with such disrespect, unprofessional & absolutely no respect for my deceased love one is unforgivable. The coroners office dropped the ball way to many times. My loved one was left there for 2 weeks with no identification, cause of death & rushing me to get a funeral home to take his remains. I completed with every request & constant communication, supplied them with all of there requests, to no avail. I believe all the responses they gave me.short staffed, Dr not getting back to them on & on. They there excuses are unacceptable. There was not 1 person of many there I spoke with that was honest, professional or truthful with me. I have dealt with my deaths over the past 2 years. Port Charlotte you have failed miserably. My loved one did not deserve this abuse, nor did his family.
