Larry and his team helped us transform our drab suburban yard into a delightful native garden. I had some vision of what I wanted, but was at a loss for how to proceed. Larry devised a beautiful landscape that I'm excited to see evolve through the seasons and years. Throughout the design/build process, Larry remained responsive and professional. I highly recommend Zamia Design.

I highly recommend Larry Teague and the Zamia Design Landscape Architecture group. We asked him to transform our standard suburban lawn yard into an environmentally friendly retreat. We had a long list of items we hoped he could incorporate. We wanted to use Florida-native and Florida-friendly plants to attract birds and butterflies and for it to have a Mediterranean garden feel. Larry embraced our dreams and enthusiastically brought them to fruition all within budget. Zamia Design helped us get approval for the project through our HOAs Architectural Committee. Larry complied with all the requirements for the Alachua County Environmental Protection Departments Turf SWAP (Save Water, Add Plants) program and got us the maximum rebate. Zamia Design removed the turf, the old overgrown foundation plants, and an aging cracked concrete driveway. They replaced the wasteful popup irrigation with a water-conserving dripline system. Their careful attention to building the new garden infrastructure was exhibited in dry streambeds, underground drainage with popup outflows, multivalve faucets, irrigation timers, sturdy trellises, and plant screening of A/C units and trashcans. Their hardscape work was meticulous and included redoing the driveway, walkway, and portico with pavers. Larrys sense of scale and garden design aesthetics are extraordinary. With an artistic curving theme repeated in three broad terraces, two 1.5 high stone raised beds for herbs and veggies, and a delightful bubbling fountain, he created a flowing and embracing ambiance. We so appreciated his widespread contacts and persistence in tracking down some of the harder to find Florida-native plants. Many of the plants he installed are on the Florida endangered and threatened species list and only legally available from a few specialty nurseries. His thoughtful selection of plants assures the sequencing of blooms and ripening berries though all seasons. Our yard is now a haven for an amazing variety of resident and overwintering birds. The butterfly response has been very rewarding with so many species animating the garden like a colorful mobile. The overall result has been a beautiful and eco-friendly landscape that we delight in year-round.
