Exceptional outcome from two procedures last year. Nothing is cookie cutter about THR procedures and there are steps in the process where you get one shot to get it right. For example, acetabular prep and determining offset must be right and this is where Dr.Mast and team excel. I consulted with three surgeons and chose Dr. Mast because he was teaching medical professionals the anterior approach a decade ago plus personally knew a PA who trained under him and corroborated his professionalism and skill. Dr.Mast and his team is well versed in the process from insurance pre-authorization, pre-lab work, and surgical logistics. Recovery follows an exponential curve where I was 10x better each successive week.

I am a hard core athlete and a former Marine. Been hard on this body and was left an invalid until I got with doctor Mast.
Im happy to say that Im back at destroying this body. Loving life, climbing mountains, participating in martial arts, Spartan races, and more. Not to mention that I work pain free.
Surgery experience was hassle free, quick, and I was walking within minutes of waking from surgery.

If you are classic hip problem, in and out procedure I suppose this guy is going to be great based on many reviews.
However, if you have any sort of specialty issue going on, ie connective tissue etc this guy will 100% dismiss you.
I was really looking forward to my visit as a second opinion. Dr Mast is judgemental and extremely biased. He looked at my chart and made assumptions. He said things to me that day in his office that I was shocked at. I tried to file a complaint but every one passes the buck. There is no accountability for this guyIve often heard of orthopedics having a good like attitude, well he fits the bill for that one.
I have connective tissue issues and I am Very very active. Injuries happen to active people at times. He left me feeling like I was the problem. He did not ask questions about my previous injuries to my shoulders and knees. 75 shoulder dislocations and a torn ACL from a ski injury. Falling on my new cadaver graft etc.
Again if you are cookie cutter he may be your guy, but I agree with a previous poster that this man does not have the capability to think outside the norm and help all people only those that are ok to him.
He is biased and extremely judgmental.

I was a 54 year old highly active man who had been experiencing hip pain for years. It was progressively getting worse to the point I had trouble walking, sitting, sleeping, getting in and out of a car. But I was TOO YOUNG for hip replacement!!! My wife convinced me I was too YOUNG not to enjoy life so I asked a couple friends who performed their hip replacement and both gave Dr. Mast rave reviews. I made and appointment with Dr. Mast. He was present, engaging, and very informative. A few weeks later I have bi-lateral hip replacement. I spent 24 hours in the hospital then recovered at home. There was minimal pain post op. I did not take any of the prescribed medications. Two weeks post op I mowed my lawn and have never looked back. I play tennis several times a week, hike, bike, pickleball, golf and everything is PAIN FREE!!!!! Surgery was the second best decision I made. The BEST decision was having Dr. Mast perform the surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Mast and his team!!!

I can't say enough good things about Dr Mast and his knowledge and expertise performing anterior hip replacements and his compassion with his patients! He is truly a rare surgeon that goes above and beyond to ensure each patient has a successful result. He prepared my 85 year old mom for her surgery with pre-hab exercises so she would be strong before surgery making her post-op recovery easier, quicker, and more successful. 100% success! She is now 90 and still driving, swimming, and gardening with her new hip. She brags about him to everyone! And on top of being an expert surgeon, she told him he's very handsome too, haha! I hope he mentors many more orthopedic surgeons through his nonprofit foundation (hipsterfoundation.org) to use the techniques he has practiced so if I ever need a hip replacement and Dr Mast has retired, I'll still be in good hands.
