#1 Physician. I have seen him since I was in my early teens. Excellent reputation with attention to detail. He comes highly recommended by other physicians. Excellent bedside manner, really listens to his patients and knows his stuff. I had gone through a few surgeries and he was very willing to work with me. Excellent team of physicians and staff! Even after relocating to the East Bay I continue to follow him. Well worth the time, effort and drive!

Dr James Garrick is the best ortho surgeon. He works with you and is not surgery crazy. His reputation is stellar with Olympic skaters and ultra marathons runners on his list of patients. My personal trainer recommended Dr. Garrick to fix my knee problem. I went to see him several times trying strength training and other insoles to help my knee. Surgery was the last resort and I am thankful for his approach. When I went to a Jeff Galloway running clinic, a podiatrist was there giving advice on running shoes etc., I mentioned I am seeing Dr. Garrick for my knee problem and the podiatrist said you are in the best of care. He is the best ortho guy in the U.S. and I agree.

As a long time patient at the St Francis Sports Medicine Center, I have still not managed to work my way through all the doctors there - but recently had the pleasure to meet with Dr Garrick last Wednesday, four days after injuring my knee. He was warm, friendly and very present. I felt very comforted by both his manner as well as his seniority & experience at the clinic. He reviewed my MRI results with me, apologized that he wasn't doing surgery these days, and flagged Dr Prieto to confirm his review of my pretty crazy looking MRI. I let Dr Garrick know that I was going to see Dr Strotz - who was recommended to me by a friend and on the same side of the bay as my home. He responded quite positively and said "Dr Strotz is a great guy and a fine surgeon" and fully endorsed my decision to go there for 2nd opinion & treatment. All in all - a very positive experience, informative & helpful.

Honestly, the reviews on this or any other site won't have noticeable effect on Dr. Garrick's practice as he is the MAN of Sports Medicine/Orthopedics - wrote a bunch of books, takes care of the Giants, SF Ballet, etc. but I just can't stand to see him here with just one star!! Dr. Garrick is simply a wonderful doctor with a well deserved reputation as the go-to doctor for knees and ankles. Over three years time, I had seen a podiatrist, orthopedist, and no less then three sports medicine doctors, and had completed months of physical therapy for my bum knee with no resolution. Dr. Garrick had me fixed in one month with no surgery. His office staff in the Center for Sport's Medicine was pleasant and cheery and he was very personable and kind. My visit wasn't very long but it didn't need to be - he looked at my knee, listened to my story, left the room for a minute and came back with a home fashioned insert for my shoe, and sent me home with a great brace and a muscle stimulator. Because I lived out of town and wouldn't be able to come back for a few months he had one of the Center's physical therapists work with me (right then) to teach me some exercises to do at home. And, just like that, years of serious pain were over and I was back running like I hadn't been able to for 3+ years. I'm now having unrelated ankle problems and, although he doesn't take my insurance (my only complaint boo), will be paying out-of-pocket to see him because he's simply the best. Keep up the good work Dr. Garrick!
