I tried to book a room but never received a confirmation email. I tried to book it again but the same thing happened - no confirmation email. So I booked a room elsewhere. The day before the trip, I thought it would be best for me to call the Proper to double check if it had been a system error. I was correct - two rooms had been booked. When I explained what had happened they said that they would only cancel one of the reservation. And I would be charged for the other given their cancellation policy. They made the reservation error and they still charged me $440! And to top things off, no one has called me to follow up after multiple emails. Terrible business. I will no longer give them business at any of their properties. Nor will I recommend it to friends.

If you are looking for a beautiful hotel in a safe walkable neighborhood THIS IS NOT IT. I want to give this hotel a 5 because it is lovely but the location is TERRIBLE. As we were approaching the hotel for the first time via Uber, we witnessed a burnt out van on the side street of the hotel. We had two Lyft drivers tell us "Do not walk anywhere around the hotel. It is unsafe" and "You are in the worst section of San Francisco." There were people fighting in the street right outside the entrance to the hotel and the police had to intervene twice, that we know of, during a two night stay. A man ran up to our Lyft and was yelling into the closed window for drugs within feet of pulling away from the hotel. There is a massive homeless tent city with several people displaying obvious signs of addiction aimlessly roaming into the streets. I am a loyal Marriott member but feel cheated that I paid for a five star hotel in a 1 star neighborhood.
