Love this space! I hosted a private corporate class at the studio and it has been one of our best event in months. DJ Lamont is an amazing teacher and knows how to grab the audience's attention, teaching a brief history of DJing and the philosophy of putting together a great set. Everyone was engaged and found it fun to practice mixing with Lamont's students. The time flew by and more of us are interested in taking more lessons with the studio. Thanks Lamont for being an awesome teacher!!

Reserved a lesson and arrived on time. Everything was fine for the first 15 minutes of the lesson and then he suddenly kicked me out and said "the vibe was off". No explanation given. Super weird.

Lamont is an amazing teacher! Extremely kind, knowledgeable and attentive. I took one lesson to help improve my vinyl DJing skills, and after just one hour Lamont helped me gain confidence, learn some new transition techniques and correct some bad habits I had formed. I highly recommend this studio!

I'm so glad I found Lamont! I could not have asked for a better teacher. His approach to DJing is based on learning how to beat match/mix by ear versus relying on the DJ software. Though it was tough to master this, I eventually realized how important it was to learn how to DJ this way. Lamont's method makes you understand how DJing works at the foundational level of music. He guides you to learn how to use the DJ controller as a music instrument versus just memorizing what buttons to mash when - akin to learning a new language by speaking it versus memorizing words/sentences. He also offers students the opportunity to play a live set outside his studio/in the Mission. I took him on this, invited a bunch of my friends, and now have my first performance under my belt. I had an absolute blast from beginning to end. Thank you for everything, Lamont!

I left feeling bad about myself :( I was gifted a free lesson from DJ Lamont for my birthday and I was excited to get started. I love house music and have always been curious how people bring it to life. I read incredible reviews stating that he is approachable and kind. Within the first 5 minutes I notice his tone was harsh and his attitude toward me was not inviting. I felt self conscious the whole time and I did not feel comfortable with him. This made me sad because I was really happy and excited to learn from him when I arrived. One time I didnt hear him tell me to hit play because the music in my headphone and he yelled HIT PLAY!! aggressively to me and I got scared. To be fair, I told him I was playing a live show very soon and had barely any experience so I was a little eager to just be prepared for that. I dont think he liked that. I want to learn the ins and outs of DJing long term but I came to him specifically before this event to feel better, but I left feeling worse about myself. I feel like I caught him on an off day or I said something he didnt like without realizing. If the latter is the case, Im sorry, but I still dont think talking to your students with aggression is warranted. One specific thing that rubbed me the wrong way is he told me to not focus on immediacy - a great piece of advice for DJing and life beyond - but he himself would get upset with me if I didnt get something he taught me right away. I wish him the best and his studio is incredible, but unfortunately I wont be returning back.
