This place isn't the best. There is no authenticity, and most, if not all of the teachers are white. For a sport/culture rooted in Asian origins, it is extremely whitewashed. Overall you can take your money elsewhere. There obsession with no contact, and lack of professionalism, makes it an overall bad choice. The leader of the "dojo" is named Jerry Devine, though he likes to go by "Master Devine" He gives off bad vibes from the get-go. He has somewhat of a big ego in my experience. While I'm not sure what his relationship with his coworkers is outside of the dojo, he insists that his fellow sensei's (coworkers) call him Master Devine. Not to mention, that the restrooms and hallways seem somewhat run down. In the men's restroom, I have seen roaches. While im not sure if they are dead or alive, I can confirm that the restrooms felt unsanitary. I wouldn't suggest this dojo to anybody!

I have trained with Pacific Martial Arts since childhood, meaning I have experienced over thirty years of benefits and value of Karate and Martial Arts activity. I've had the opportunity to see generations of fellow students come and go, and proud to see many of them succeed in both Martial Arts, school, and their professional lives. I personally have found the message of character development and non-aggressiveness impactful in my life over the years. With regard to a previous review referring to a lack of contact, that's not entirely accurate - but it's relevant to point out that no one wants or needs their six year olds coming in and hurting each other. The same control I have to not hit or kick someone is the same control I try to exhibit in any stressful situation in life. For those also seeking an experience beyond traditional Martial Arts, the dojo is heavily involved with cultural organizations as well, such as Urasenke San Diego (Japanese Tea / Chad). In addition, I've also had the experience of competing in both a regional and national AAU Karate tournaments. It's hard to write a short review for an organization that I have been associated with for so long, but I am to this day still a paying customer and student, so I highly recommend this dojo for its authenticity and great impact on both my physical health as well as success in work and life.
