I recently went into this store for the first time. Samples were being served, and the staff person who greeted me seemed super friendly. I explained why I was there and was passed on to the blonde lady behind the register. I told her I wanted to pick up some green tea for my mom. She asked if it was for Christmas, and I told her "no," I just wanted a little something to give her when I see her next week. At this point we're both aware it's not a formal gift, but a simple kind gesture. So she begins to pull out tins and have me smell them, starting with "the best" and then her "personal favorite." After selecting a tea, she asks how much do I want. I explain that I've never bought loose tea before, and would like to know my options. She opens up a 1lb canister and begins to fill it up, explaining that it is only $7 for the canister. I respond by stating that is way too much tea. She tells me I can get the 1/2 lb canister, buy another tea for myself, and receive a 10% discount. I think that sounds good. Until she places the 1/2 lb canister on the scale and informs me the cost is over $60. At this point I'm a little stressed about the cost since this is supposed to be just a "little something" for my mom, but decide it's my fault for going into a store inexperienced and uneducated. I decline the 2nd 1/2 lb of tea. I go online today to the Teavana website and discover you can order as little as 2oz of tea at a time. Now I'm fuming because the lady behind the counter did nothing to educate me about my options like I asked. The only reason the store is receiving 3 stars is because the staff person who greeted me was friendly and funny.
