Sara Gonzalez is one of the best accountants in the area and she is dedicated to making sure everything is accounted for in a timely and organized manner. I'd give her 10 stars if it was available.

After purchasing a house and having a baby in 2020, we decided to hire an accountant for our taxes. I searched google and thumbtack for individuals able to do virtual taxes for Lansing, Michigan. H&E Accounting (original name of Gonzalez Accounting) came highly recommended. The taxes for year 2020 (done Spring 2021) and for year 2021 (done spring 2022) seemed to go okay, until we got a letter Fall 2022 from the City of Lansing saying that we never paid city taxes for 2020 OR 2021. This was news to us - we didn't know we had to pay city taxes. Plus, wouldn't the accountant, who was certified to do taxes in Lansing Michigan, know that? After struggling with the City of Lansing, we reached out to Sara Gonzalez informing her of the oversight. She seemed genuinely apologetic. We decided to give her another chance to do our taxes for 2022 now that she was aware of the city tax issue. We were very prepared this year and made sure she understood that we needed to complete City of Lansing income taxes in addition to federal and state taxes. It took her a few weeks to complete our taxes, but I brushed that off because tax season is busy, I understand we aren't her only clients. I reached out April 3, 2023 for an update - she responded April 7 saying that she sent us our tax documents for signatures. I signed them until I noticed that there were some flaws. That said, I immediately reached out to her April 7, 2023 outlining that there were two primary issues/concerns: (1) we never got to upload/change our bank account information in order to receive a return and (2) was she still planning on completing our city taxes? Tax day was April 18, 2023. I figured by sending two emails on April 7, 2023 that I would get a swift response so we can address the two aforementioned issues to avoid any future complications. I did not hear back from Sara. Again, figured she was busy due to tax season, so I emailed one of her other email addresses. Still nothing. I emailed her again April 18, 2023 (tax day) asking for an update related to my concerns (How do I change my bank information for direct deposity and are you doing my city taxes)? Still nothing. It is now April 21, 2023 and I have not heard from Sara Gonzalez in two weeks. I have now emailed 3 different email addresses to try and figure this out to no avail. I am trying to be understanding because as an accountant during tax season, she must be quite busy. That said, when I pay $257 dollars to have my taxes completed, I expect that the information be accurate (or able to be changed to be accurate) and to have open communication. Neither have been the case. I tried to look H&E or Gonzalez accounting up on BBB, with no luck. I don't understand how she comes up as qualified to complete tax projects for people in Lansing, MI when she is located in AZ. That is puzzling. That aside, although she has been nice in the past, I will no longer be utilizing Sara Gonzalez (Gonzalez Accounting) as our tax preparer. Hopefully this review will urge her or someone at her office to reach out to us so we can actually get our questions addressed to avoid any issues with the city, state(s), and federal government to whom we pay taxes to.

Ms. Gonzalez, This is our desperate, last ditch effort to try and get in contact with you. This is the third year that my family has used you to prepare our taxes. For the years 2020 and 2021 we were ignorantly happy with your services. You see, we had prepared our own taxes up until 2020 but that year we both bought our home and welcomed our first child and we felt as though we would be better off hiring a professional to file for us to insure that everything was done properly. So we hired you, and boy was that a mistake. We were blissfully unaware that you had failed to file our city tax paperwork until we received a notice a few months ago stating that we would be expected in court if we did not file within 14 days. So, I hired a babysitter and headed downtown to the Treasurers Office and broke down crying explaining my situation to her after she informed me that your mistake was going to cost us over $600 in late fees on top of the taxes that we owed. Thank God for payment plans. We informed you of this situation, you genuinely seemed apologetic and you assured us that this would not occur again and even offered to be flexible with payment for this year's taxes. You see, I am a big supporter of second chances so against my better judgment, I convinced my wife to give you another shot this year, especially since it sounded like you were starting your own business this year. Man, am I an idiot. Not only have you repeatedly failed to respond timely to our emails, the last email we received from you was a full two weeks ago, of which my wife responded that you had our bank information wrong on the taxes you prepared for us this year. You have not responded to ANY communication in the last two weeks. We don't know the status of our taxes that were supposed to be filed this week but I do know that because of this I will now owe another fine to the city for late payment because you have failed to send us the final, signed copies of our taxes. So now my family will be out more than $900 in late fees to the city but also who knows what we will owe to the State. On top of that, I am also out the $250 I gave you last month and whatever else I will need to pay someone for fixing your mistakes. So Sara, please reach out and tell us how you are going to make this right.
