Shift Kitchen & Bar

Possibly the best restaurant in Flag, and comes in at a better price point than the competitors. The (somewhat concise) menu rotates, so your mileage may vary when it comes to the selection, but I've never been disappointed in the half dozen or so trips here. Food is always cooked well. No complaints with service. The atmosphere is cozy but not too cramped. Great wine selection. I've enjoyed some of their more unique dishes but so far my favorite has been the pork chop with apple and arugula. Extremely juicy and full of flavor. Parking: Standard downtown Flagstaff parking. Street spots are very cheap but you can spend more for the underground lot if there's nothing closer.

OUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN FLAG!!! We come to Flagstaff every 6 months for work and we HAVE to eat here no matter what. Chef Christian is amazingly talented and her food is always always creative and delicious!! (No question why she was nominated for a James Beard Award). If you ever see it on the menu, you must try the Red Bell Pepper Sorbet (or any of the sorbets) as a starter! Oh, and my husband LOVES that they have an extensive European wine selection.

Not going back. My wife, her parents, and I went to Shift to enjoy and celebrate my wifes birthday. We made reservations for 530pm, due to a heavy lunch earlier in the day, we called to see if we could move our reservations to a later time. We were given a time of 615pm. When we arrived, we were seated and immediately told we had to leave by 730 since we were late we advised that we were not late, we rescheduled. They said we were wrong and had to leave at 730. NEVER in my life have I had such terrible hospitality. This introduction immediately ruined the great mood we were in prior to entering the building. From that point on, the food was ok, our main dishes were good, and the dessert my wife and I shared (sticky toffee pudding?) was not good. We were expecting great things, but were SADLY disappointed by the hospitality. If we knew we were going to have the same table and same allotted time, we would have kept our initial reservations. The way we were told that we were wrong was astounding. I could expect that level of hospitality at a hole in the wall diner, but not at a place that is revered as high end. We will never go back. We entertain visitors and guest to flagstaff constantly and we will warn them about Shift.
