Nannette P. on Yelp

image If you live in Fairbanks DO NOT rent or buy from MB Management / MVI Realty. They are crooks who will rent you dangerous accommodations, never return your phone calls, and then steal from you when you move out. I have been a renter for 16 years. I have lived in Alaska for 11 years now and have been relatively lucky as a renter. I have ALWAYS had my ENTIRE deposit returned to me and have had landlords that cared about my and my family's SAFETY and well being to enough make necessary repairs when brought to their attention. Our last year found us living at 2641 N. Steese, a nineplex apartment unit that is managed by MB Management / MVI Realty. The water was wholly undrinkable and was so toxic that it is essentially disintegrating the pipes. I was told that it should be okay to wash dishes & bathe in, but we really shouldn't drink it. This "you shouldn't drink it" information was never shared with at least one of my neighbors who was pregnant when she moved in. My daughter and I both fell down the stairs on multiple occasions due to ice and snow accumulation. It wasn't until after the 3rd time that I called that I was informed where the salt was kept (in the laundry room which had a lake of ice in front of it) and that I was welcome to use it. Not, "we'll come fix it" but rather "here's where we keep it, good luck with not cracking your skull or busting a hip trying to address the problem". The bucket where the salt was kept was also empty. In the year that we lived there the parking lot was plowed ONCE and only when it became nearly impossible to get in and out of the parking lot, which I believe was in March, but it may have been as late as April. I had many issues with my downstairs neighbors smoking in their bathroom and kitchen with their fan on, which would blow right into MY bathroom and kitchen (I was pregnant the last 6 months I lived there). The only time this stopped was for about a week after I knocked on the door and let them know it was making me sick. When I asked about moving out before my lease was up (as I was ordered by my doctor/ midwife to move as soon as possible due to health concerns) and having what was left prorated and returned (we had paid ahead, until the end of our lease as responsible tenants) I was told that I was still responsible for rent until the end of my lease and that I would need to also keep the electric in my name unless a new tenant could be found. They did eventually return part of my June rent but only after trying to bill me for an additional month of which we did NOT live there. To add insult to injury they charged us $250 for cleaning that they took from our deposit. When I pressed for an itemized bill of what was cleaned I was given poor quality low-res photos which are hard to make out, but the ones where I can tell what they are all things that I listed as being DIRTY on my move-in check list. This is after I was assured by no less than 3 separate employees that my move-in paperwork would be used to determine if there was anything I owed for cleaning and that I would be given a detailed account/ bill of anything that I would be charged for to be cleaned . They clearly did NOT even glance at my move-in paperwork and the only bill I received said cleaning per scope of work. For your safety, for your health, and for your pocketbooks, Fairbanks friends, DO NOT rent from MB Management / MVI Realty!
