UAB Callahan Eye Clinic – Cahaba River

I have been a Callahan Eye patient for about 15 years, and started visiting the Cahaba location about four or five years ago. I had mixed experiences at first. My first appt. lasted over four hours. It seemed they forgot I was even waiting in the room after having my eyes dilated. But the last few years have been great. Recently, my doctor left the practice, and I was assigned to a new doctor. I was asked the day before my original appt if I could change times. When I wasnt able to change to the times requested, I was rescheduled for another day. They asked if I could do an appt at the downtown location, and I said I could not. (I work from home near the Cahaba location and take care of my mother who has Alzheimers, so the convenience of the Cahaba location is critical for me.) They gave me my new appt time, which was for today. I was surprised to learn today that I was scheduled for downtown. The situation was made worse when I was told that since I am a new patient to this doctor, there are no available appts for me with any doctor at the Cahaba location at all. Not just any time soon; no appts at all. I told them that unfortunately it seems like I will need to find a new provider somewhere else. When I asked if there was a way to provide feedback on this experience, I was told there was a number to a complaint line that I could text. I declined that offer. The only reason I am giving this place two stars instead of one is because of the past care I received from the medical assistants and the receptionist today who tried her best to help me. Its been made clear to me today that retaining and serving patients is no longer a priority for Callahan Eye, and especially not for this location.

Prepare to stay hours once you arrive, getting there early does not matter as we arrived 15 minutes before scheduled time. You will be there longer than expected. Also, staff can use some customer service refresher courses. Receptionist was RUDE upon arrival and check out. She also did not give my child an excuse for school. Do better.

This was my first time seeing Dr. Tyler Hall at UAB Callahan Eye Clinic at the Cahaba River Rd. I was referred there by the Hoover office. I arrived earlier than expected bc, I was coming from another location. And I didnt wont to be late! I was greeted by a nice & friendly young lady at the front desk who Checked me in for my appointment. Apparently, Kids and babies are seen at this location too. And one of the Doctors was seeing the little ones too that day! It was a few in the waiting area. I was seated for about a 6-10 minutes wait time before being called back to be seen. The young lady introduced herself as Dr Halls Tech Assistant, and seated me for my initial eye exams to begin. She was very pleasant, polite and explained everything. Whew! But her exam was very thorough and professional. Bc, Ive had plenty of tests done in the past years and she was very thorough! After, the eye exams with the charts and B/P testing were done. She dilated my eyes for the final part of the exam to be done. I was seated In the room for the drops to become effective. Dr. Hall came into the hallway and introduced himself to me and asked me to follow him back for the next part of my eye examination. His other Assistant was with him & she was at the computer imputing the information that he was relying. After, my complete and final exam. I was given a thorough review of my eyes health and conditions. Prescriptions was sent to my pharmacy. I was fully informed of everything that I needed to know about my eye health! The Atmosphere was a little bit busy only bc of the little ones & the play room. But, it wasnt really bad! Everyone was friendly and polite. VERY PROFESSIONAL EYE EXAM!

Complete disregard for ppls time. I sat in the waiting room for an hour after my appt time even tho I arrived 15 min early. Then after the basic ck up the nurse puts me in yet another waiting room for another 45 min. Back in a room to see Dr and wait another 10min

My daughter just received a pair of glasses from this clinic through sight savers. The staff is super friendly! Mr.John in particular was very kind to both my children even though only one was being seen! Thanks Mr.John! I cherish everyone that is kind to my autistic baby girl. And she remembers you for it too!!
