Novant Health Hawthorne Outpatient Surgery Center

Went for my first cataract surgery yesterday and the staff was wonderful. Everyone was kind, considerate and very professional from the receptionist to the OR nurse and all in between (and my doctor was awesome). I was skittish because of the Twilight anesthesia so I was awake to some degree. It was perfect. No pain, made me comfortable, and it was a truly great experience. I cant say enough about the hard working people there at Hawthorne Surgical. Theyre the bomb diddy.

If you must have a procedure done at this place, do yourself a favor and schedule it earlier in the day. The later it gets, the more you subject yourself to care (if you even want to call it that) by nurses and staff that are only worried about getting you out of there so they can punch the clock and go home. Not to mention, not being able to get seen on time because they are "running behind." Don't worry though, they'll rush you through and make up their time at your expense.

My child had an oral procedure done yesterday, the nurses and assistants and front desk were all nice and my son surgery went well. He is autistic and I wish people had more knowledge of what comes with children on the spectrum. My son is very impatient and has sensory issues and is delayed in many areas. Simple things like brushing his teeth, combing his hair or even putting on clothes can be very challenging. During the summer he had a habit of digging his nails in dirt which caused moisture to be trapped in his nails and he had a fungal infection so his nails are brown but they look much better than they did. I feel judged when people see my child and they dont know the struggles and hardships I endure just to upkeep him and I felt judgement in the office yesterday. You never know what the next person is going through and I appreciate the ones who helped but please gain more knowledge before casting judgement. I felt the need to explain things that should be understood but I also understand a lot of people dont understand. All of us are made differently and I hope this changes how you view future patients and parents.

I had my first cataract surgery done here with NO MEDCATION administered! I told them more than once that I had not been medicated, yet I was restrained and had cutting and drilling instruments inserted into my eye. Yes, my eye had been numbed, but his was the longest 8 minutes of my life! My suggestion is that the doctors should check with and LISTEN TO their patients BEFORE THEY CUT! What is wrong with them? Have they lost all humanity? Half of my "patient rights" were egregiously violated. I complained to Patient Relations and got a tepid reply. The second eye was done by Carolina Eye Associates and it was the easiest, most comfortable and kindest experience imaginable! What a difference! I rarely give bad reviews but people need to know!

I love novant. The staff were incredibly friendly and made you feel safe and comfortable. My brother ( who has autism) went here for a dental surgery. He wasnt judged, anxious, or upset. In fact he was happy and calm. The staff worked together to assure he as well as our family were comfortable. I want to give the entire team a thumbs up all the way down to the anesthesiologist. Im with Atruim health and never felt such warmth. I highly recommend. Thank the staff for all they do.
