I had a horrible experience at Muir Pediatrics.  My 18 year old daughter is headed off to college this week.  I needed forms filled out for her admissions and I  dropped them off.  I called and spoke with appointment desk to talk about Meningococcal ACWY 2nd dose my daughter needed.  This office has a habit of telling parents they need additional vaccines that are not required by law but try to make you feel they are mandatory.  In my son's physical the same week the Meningococcal ACWY Booster was recommended which I agreed to.  Then, the Bexero or Serogroup B (Men B) was pushed.  I declined the Bexero for my son and took the Vaccine information statement home.  I read it and it states that half the people that receive this have problems from it.  Not only that, it is not required BY LAW, nor is it required at my Children's boarding school or college.  So why should I have my insurance charged and vaccinate?So I made an appointment for the 2nd dose of MenACWY for my daughter and went to pick up her completed medical paperwork for college that was completed by Dr. Holden. I explained to the lady at the front desk that she was only there for 2nd dose of Men ACWY and to pick up paperwork. While I was filling out paperwork, the nurse called my daughter back. I explained to my daughter she does not need the Men B only the second dose of MenACWY.  The confused her with verbal gymnastics telling her these are the doctor's recommendations and went ahead and gave her the Serogroup B anyway while I was sitting in the lobby filling out the paperwork.  That was a dirty trick and my daughter said she was confused and thought she needed both because she is young and inexperienced and in a vulnerable position with a person of authority.  So rather than saying I'm not sure, she took his word for it.   Had I went in with her this would not have happened.  Although my daughter is 18 we hold Power of Attorney for her medical since she is going away.  I am completely disgusted with what happened at this office and tired of the doctors pushing vaccines that are NOT REQUIRED BY LAW and trying to make you feel they are by saying "they need this" then, giving the vaccine anyway the first chance they get and intimidating the patient and charging the insurance for it.  I've been on the phone since I got home with Medical Malpractice Attorneys and the Vaccine Injury program.  My daughter did have a reaction to the MenAwBY and starting fainting at school after she received it.  I have all her medical records to back this up.  She missed a lot of school the last 2 months of 8th grade and was diagnosed with POTS right after vaccine.  Thankfully it cleared up. I'm not against vaccinating, what I am against is being pushed to have vaccines that are not required by law and our insurance being charged for them.  My other two children also had adverse skin reactions after MMR when they were babies.  I absolutely did not want to give her two vaccinations in 1 day right before she is going away for college.  Dr. Holden never spoke with my daughter or me about her recommendations.  The nurse did not fully inform a young patient by herself that the Serogroup B was not required it was only recommended.  This was absolute nonsense.

Looks like I'm the first to review Dr. Holden!  She's been my daughter's pediatrician for a little over 2 years.  She very knowledgeable and great with kids.  The few times I've had to call for an emergency I've received prompt responses.  She's also less rigid then some doctors who may insist on things being a certain way which I like.

Jennifer is a wonderful physician. She has a lovely ability to create safety and connection with children and their parents. She is highly skilled and very compassionate.
I highly recommend her.
